View Full Version : Does Enigma Outweigh Fort for Smiters

I'm questioning if my fort does enough damage to use instead of an Enigma, keeping the +Strength in mind. Does Fort's +300% Ed enough to take off enigma?
What do you recommend doing btw? Against those pesky barbs, I seriously experimented with one, and I can't touch them because good ones will never ww through me and my range is like zero with a Phase Blade, does a Zerker Axe make a big difference? Or the strategy that can come with Enigma vs these guys.
fort doesn't add to smite dmg, so nigma wins easy.

I have experimented with Fort and Enigma, keeping open wounds and other mods out. Fort consistantly did more damage than Enigma. Enigma took 1/2 of this characters life, while Fort took awa 1/3. I did so for about 4-5 times last ladder. I then concluded Fort's Ed did more damage.
I will now do it again just to make sure. o_O
On my own two clients.
Edit: Confirmed. Does anybody need pics? I smited my Hdin and it left it with 500 life with my Fort on. I then put my Enigma on, and smited again. It decreased to 700 life. So. I guess thats the damage difference.

Predict where the whirlwind ends and teleport in that spot, then shift smite. That extra range from berserker axe does come in handy. Since most barbs are most likely using berserker axe as their weapon (beast/grief), their range > your phase blade's range, therefore that might be the reason why you keep losing. Enigma > fortitude. If you still can't kill barbs, try flashing holy freeze at them.

I do try to flash holy freeze but the hardest part is going to where he is Whirlwinding without Enigma. *Sigh* I guess I gota buy a Berserker grief.
erm, isnt 1/2 bigger then 1/3? so you supported what i said. 50% > 33%
also, the dmg isnt going to be the same every smite.

I mean that if I used Fort, 1/3 of the life is left. And Enigma still had 1/2 life left. The difference was 200 damage.
Ok listen, ive been beaten by Two smiters on East....Both of them use zerkers and Nigma
against a good barb your gonna have to Tele ahead of his WW and smite while he is Ww'ing
Then again i always Try to randomize it

Okay. I'm already using the Enigma and remaking. But what about the Zerker Axe? Is that vital?
If i had my barb gEared up i chould show you how vital it is....As im clipping u

I knew you would be clipping me. I guess I gota buy a Grief Zerker. =/
Is the last Bp also vital?
I need 60% Ias after Fanaticism to reach last Bp correct? So if I have a +40 Ias Zerker and a +20 Highlord, that achieves the Bp? Did I get my numbers right.

You need 50 ias with level 27+ fanat,
52 ias with level 26 to 23 level fanat
54 ias with level 22 to 20 level fanat
Enigma is the way to go, unless dueling elemental damage opponents (coh).
Just teleport where you think they are going to ww.
You need to get the last bp on your smiter too.

Yes I got that sorted out. Thanks for telling me, great answer. Thats the clearest answer I've heard, but I got it figured out before you told me haha.
Now am I just paranoid. Or do I just have to get those +20 Dex gloves. I kept buying new ones and new ones, I finally got one 20 Ias/ +11 Str/ +14 Dex/ 21 Fr/ Minor Mods. Good enough? Or do I need the 20 Dex. X_X

I forgot to mention, my post above is only for berserker axes.
15 dex is max on gloves.
My smiter used crafted 20 ias, 1x dex, 1x str, crushing blow, some resist gloves.
Your gloves are good enough, only thing you could get is crushing blow now I suppose.
Edit: The 15 max dex on gloves is based on crafted ones.

What about on non-crafted gloves? So the non-crafted ones are can be more than +15 Dex? I've only seen offers for rare ones which I am getting alot of. I currently have a 20 Ias/ +11 Str/ +14 Dex/ 21 Fr/ Minor Mods. Sorry for all the questions. I have Ocd. X_X
When I had a smiter I always used both. Tele there, clear monsters by them, but not them (IE out of the view of, doesn't apply to durry), go to town and put fort on and go to town. But you should definitely use fort in trist.

I don't think the extra 200-300 damage will affect trist that much. Since it is mostly basing on Cb. I already remade my Smiter with Enigma. =]
Aaah. Much better. I'll see if Trist needs the Fort then the next time I use it.
I had a Pvp Smiter earlier this ladder
Ber'd Shako, Highlords, Mp nig, Grief Zerker, Upp'd Ber'd Hoz, Crafted gloves, 65 life Waterwalks, Bk,Raven, Cta/spirit on switch
Well the only thing i changed While ubering was substitute Grief for a Lastwish. And could easily dominate THe Mini-ubers And Trist in under 4 mins. Res for trist was never a prob Beacause id just use Salvation for Meph then by that time Fade had already casted. This was before i got the 20/life/11 res Small charms.
I did like 4 Ubers for Ski-dude and other random people ha
Then well i deleted my smiters so i could use his name on my barb ha

I have your exact same build, except Maras. The only thing I need to switch is a Guillaume for Cb.
I'm not in a rush to kill all the Ubers fast, so I think Lw is just a luxury item. Lol.
