Staff Poofed-Char dead in water! Help Please!

I have the " Kill Duriel" quest after laborious effort in single play on the Eastern Realm Ladder acquiring the staff and headpiece,...had it transmuted,....and took it to alter for Duriel chamber access when the staff simply disappeared out of backpack!!!!!

I can not get another quest for maggots lair or viper temple to reacquire the headpiece and bottom staff portion ....says completed already,,," not, Can't complete in this game""""" ...so cannot get to Duriel,.. or fullfill the " kill Duriel " quest without a staff to blow a hole in the wall..



HELP>>>>what do I do.... this is a dual claw class assassin I slaved over.

1) Create a new character
2) Create a new game and do the quests again, even if it says you can't, it should give you the part again.

Hmm.. lets check carefully

Did u do this by urself or with others? If others, then they probably did the quest. If u were partied with them, the staff would of disappeared.

If u put the staff in the alter, it will disappear. did u do that or did it just disappear?

If all else fails, make a new game (you make it) and check the duriel quest. Can u still complete it? If yes, go kill him. if not, i have no idea what you've just said.

No,.....the staff never made it to the alter,,,,,,,,,,,,,,just after retrieving it from stash to deliver to alter it simply pooffed (((disappeared))) from body.

I can not get another quest to seek those original items.( when I try,..it says,..I already completed this quest in a previous game))).......only quest left in log is to kill Duriel.


The only thing I think could explain it is that I did use my high level barb to help clear out lands on two occasions,,,....but,...has never mattered in past!!!!
It was always single play "and" I had all quests completed properly in log up till staff POOOOFFFFING

Go back to the alter and see if u can go into the chamber.

Thank you very much Slashbomb for taking the time.........I do sincerely appreciate advice,..but,..I have reopened numerous times and no staff in my cube or backpack......alter will not automatically open,...and cannot get second copies of headpiece or lower portion,..OR,...even the quest to do so,,,,,each time I start a new game.

I think my barb helper caused it!

Try talking to cain? Talk to everybody. Maybe you can get another staff. Of course, you could just get the staff from hero editor. (unless youre playing closed bnet, which if you are, act 2 is no big deal in normal mode)

I am playing ladder........so no editor,...........cain gives the quest if you talk to him before killing Radament,...in which case the Horadric Scroll drops which does the same thing........either way,.......I can't get the scroll or cain to reissue the tainted sun and horadric staff quests to make a new staff..........alter won't open without it...I have a screwed level 70 sin that makes me sick thinking about it

PS...............Thanks guys for the input....you covered the same save attemtps I made....I think it's a lost cause...I'll rebuild

You know it's not hard to join a game where someone else is doing act 2?

Or even get someone to give you a staff!

Even if you've completed the quest you can still go back to the Maggot Lair and retrieve the staff, same goes for the Claw Viper Temple and the amulet.

SOLUTION: I did join a multi-player game and rode in on the shirt tail of another player who had a staff, killed Duriel and went onward.
