I don't want to sound like a prude and I do believe in freedom of speech and freedom of the press, but every time I see articles published on this site instructing D2 players as to how to conduct trading scams , player killer techniques, hacking the the closed realms etc., ...I have to wonder where our values are. As professional and respectable as this site is in every other respect, and regardless of the freedom of press principle that we all hold so dear, I personally believe that these kinds of corrupt practices should be openly discouraged by the admistration, staff as well as the rest of us well meaning individuals. Such hurtful and self serving acts run counter to Blizzard's closed BN ploicy, disrupt ladder and non-ladder realm functions and can only cause heartache and grief to the rest of us honest rule abiding fans who become the victims of such abuse. Forgive me if I am missing the bigger picture here somehow, or, if I have failed to recognize any legal 'freedom of press' complications precluding such censorship, and
forgive me if this post should have been more appropriately posted in a different section such as "small talk", but I wanted some of this sites' more influential members to read this.
Why did I bother leaving Open BN?

One reason I left D2 and stopped looking in the diablo sections. I agree with you.

That's one reason I stopped playing, too much hacking and scamming going on. Who needs to hack D2? The game is easy as hell.

I agree with you but that's life my friend. The world is unfair and D2 has been like that since the beginning of time. We all play Diablo II knowing there will be hackers and scammers. You just have to accept it.

I know what you mean by discouraging hacks in the forums though. I don't like to think that our members do hack people, but the hacks/dupes section brings a lot of people to the forums. I first came here to find a maphack in the hacks and dupes section. I know maphack is different that a hack for a player, but when you start regulating exactly what hacks are/aren't allowed then all hell breaks loose.

I believe if you look closely you will see that alot of our members are infact legit. And often times try to persuade others agaisnt using these hacks and exploits.
or atleast give advice on how not to fall for them or whatever

Most of our members are legit, and as soon as we find out if the members hack accounts they are banned. Otherwise i'm not sure, as i don't keep up with the terminology of d2 anymore, however, other mods do cover this part of the site. I cover general moderation, nothing to do with d2.
So basically, if you have a specific qaulm, please adress it.
It's acceptable that members hack on open if i remember correctly, if you are looking for true to rules play, i'd recommend closed?
It's not against general morals or rules that players hack characters on open, blizzard does not moderate such activities, it's out of our hands. If members choose to speak about subjects, that is on the users head, not ours. there is no choice of wrong or right in this situation, as it runs, we lose members for choosing to ban topics such as hacking open chars. In short, it's up to members to choose what they do in the realms, not us, if they choose to talk about acceptable conversation about such, that is up to them, untill they step over the line, it's against our very rules to take action upon personal feeling.

Meh, I agree with the subject, that hacking should be kept out of closed. But I didn't quit cause of that, I quit cause once I reach my goal in D2, it gets insanely boring for me and then I quit. Happened 4 times already.

Yes we don't allow scamming and hacking here we do close threads like that and people have been banned in the past if it is found out they have been doing these things.

I have never seen this site advocate scamming or hacking closed B.net. I think you are confused as to who we are. We share glitches sometimes, ask about maphacks or whatever and post them up but I don't consider that much of an unfair advantage by any means.

I stand corrected to a large extent in that it appears from the responses to this thread that the problem is not nearly as pervasive as my imagination suggested. Certainly the publication of such papers as M. Fitzpatricks Anti-PK Guide are necessary if we are to fight fire with fire even if it serves to educate the misdirected who use it to develope PK plans. Obviously, there is nothing sinister about exploiting glithes while, obviously too, the maphack is harmless to others, and, in all likelihood, has little to no impact on the closed realms. Inasmuch as hacking is generally accepted on Open BN, I am sure those kinds of articles/downloads are a source of attraction for those who enjoy that dimension of gameplay.
But, I have to confess, when I saw the instructions on the ' trading scam', which is still posted here, I was appalled, and consequently overreacted with my initial however hasty remarks.
I don't believe that this site ever advocated hacking and I don't see some of the papers I noticed a couple of years ago,...... but, at the risk of sounding radical, ......I believe the 'trading scam' work should be removed. It can only hurt others. Sorry to be so lengthy but lastly I would like to say that I am very encouraged by other input which clearly indicate a high level of integrity across the board.

Oh come one, what the hell?
Battle.net is the way it is, regardless of what we do or what we don't do. I've been scammed a few times when I was a noob, both of those times I could have avoided if I had read about how scams work. If you use them to rip people off it's completely up to your conscience and the other person's stupidity / lack of knowledge.

All we do is promote awareness, nothing else.

i agree fully with you frate. we dont promote hacking other people's characters or accounts, even by posting thread detailing the trade scam. the only scams that exhist, exhist ONLY because of the stupidity and lack on knowledge of other players. i fell to different scams when they came out when i was first playing, but after that, you have to be an idiot to fall for them. unless you are completely oblivious and careless, its pretty tough to get scammed.

if we were to remove threads like that, alot less people would know how it works, and alot less people would know how to defend and detect it, preventing it happening to them.

Frater is right that guide is there to know what the scams are, we have never advocated scamming here and we have lists around of know d2 scammers and also have banned in the past.

And this is the general attitude of the whole forum and that is why we are a honest d2 forum.

Its the same everywhere you go. The midset of, cutting the liberty altogether because of the abuse of said liberty by few, is what is wrong with the world today. It seems nowadays one person does something wrong and everyone has to suffer for it. For example, most people just used maphack to MF, others came along and exploited it in a way that effected other memebers in a negative fashion and BAM, blizzard started banning accounts linked to the use of MH. I used to play regularly but when they banned all my good accounts I said **** THEM.
