Ok, I too have seen KaRANT's posting for a long time and haven't said anything since I was on cable. My situation has changed now and all I can do is a 50k dial-up. I have no problems except one... and it has literally nothing to do with dial-up... you summon necromancers are a pain to everyone, broadband and dial-up alike because you cause so much movement(screen updates) due to the sheer numbers of minions you have around(If you don't believe me, join a baal run with a "rude" summon necro and see if you lag)!!!

I successfully join and participate in numerous Baal runs to level char(bot or manual) and on several occasions have used my yamb baal bot to run public normal and nm FULL games with my blizz sorc and hammerdin to help level characters for my friends and receive no complaints except they think my bot should put up the tp before I clear it... Sad

I honestly think Karant doesn't truly understand all of the issues related to playing D2, and I make no claims to being an expert, but I wanted to put my 2 cents on this subject now that I have been using dial-up for 3 weeks.

HEY HEY HEY... they're is nothing wrong with lagging. I find it incredibly soothing to play in a game where I have to wait an hour and 20 minutes for a character to move.

Interesting observation; however, you would "lag out" long before then. Technically known as a connection interuption error...

Take 1 computer.

1) Put it on a highspeed connection, play a game and grab the average FPS.
2) Take the same computer, and connect using dialup, get the average FPS.

Yes, you will notice a horrible frame rate on dialup.

average FPS = Frames Per second. and HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CONNECTION
it is SOLEY BASED OFF YOUR GRAPHICS CARD PLAIN AN SIMPLE

In d2 most of the lag is caused by bots and other third party software. Also like MSIjr01 stated lag in specific locations such as after killing shenk or many people in game using spells with big visual effects are caused by your memory and/or gfx card.
I had a 64mb gfx card witch is pretty bad, using a modded patch helped allot thou but it also makes the game look a bit dull.

im sure there would still be lag even if u kill all the hacks

No, Priest is right. While internet lag doesn't affect FPS is all games, it does affect FPS in some.

Actually.. I use Dial up for Diablo 2, and I dont lag anyones games. No matter how bad it is, I never lag or lag others. Maybe cause I actually take care of my Modem.. and Inspect it before I play games =D
