since eexile is so ex*****ve would the life tap from dracs be able to help me survive in uber trist ?? or is the exile a must?

Best weapon for a smiter vs uber trist - Glock - 08-10-2005

well, if you're gonna be a smiter - u would need eexile in the first place. the reason because a vortex gives huge smite dmg, lots of res, defiance (huge def boost - keeps u alive), and lifetap...

and i wouldnt really rely on dracs cause the life tap might come in too late (less % chance of casting)

so in other words - yes exile is a must if youre gonna solo the ubers

Exile is so expensive though...don't even get me going with an Eth one. You'll have to really shell out for it, and I am sure there are plenty of poor players around here (like me).

If ya wanted a vortex shield, go with the Gris Shield, and better yet, get the whole set, you can make quite a bit of use with all those slots. Ber the hell out of the caddy, and you got some serious crushing blow, um the shield, your set for resists.

And your getting plenty of +skills with the set too, just use Drac's grasp, with fast enough attack speed, it'll kick in just in time, and Drac's life tap level is 5 levels higher than Exile's too.

Of course, I havent tried it myself, but it served me well in 1.10 with Uber Diablo just fine =3

Any smiter with life tap can solo trist...BUT just make sure ur resists are 75...otherwise 1 hit KO'ed'.

Exile isnt really that expensive...2-3 hi can get u one in west nl...Or u can make one urself.

I play on USEast Ladder and Exile goes for so much...its crazy, like a BOTD Zerk Axe or several very high runes. Hell, for a Eth Vortex Shield, players would offer a few high or very high runes just for it >_>

I was offering a phoenix vortex w/ +44 res and I'm looking for an e exile vortex/zak. Someone offered me 1100 def vortex but it didn't have res, only 34 ed. Should I only look for one with res? If the exile didn't have res, I'd lose my max res from hoz which would give me around 25 res in hell.

sry if im dumb but would pheonix be could good ubertrist or is it just good for pvp?

Best weapon for a smiter vs uber trist - psyfect - 08-11-2005

Imo: 50% res > 50% ed

Now if you were going to have max STACKED res BEFORE equiping your shield AND you're a chargeadin. MAYBE 50% ed.

stop asking what's the best smiter weapon, no question, phase blade grief is #.1

Best weapon for a smiter vs uber trist - Mr Blaine Ng - 08-16-2005

You asked for the number one weapon, so I would have to say grief, but if you can't afford that then you can try the asterons.

Best weapon for a smiter vs uber trist - [The Reaper] - 08-16-2005

I have a question for people who did uber trist already with a smite. Did you have to repair your weapon ever? My grief zerk's durability seems to go down really fast.

i rarely ever need to repair it.

Best weapon for a smiter vs uber trist - DownholeTool - 08-16-2005

What about a light sabre for the ignore target defense and the very good ias? I know it doesn't have any other good mods really, but it would do in a pinch would it not?

Best weapon for a smiter vs uber trist - [The Reaper] - 08-16-2005

smite already ignores target def.

Best weapon for a smiter vs uber trist - DownholeTool - 08-16-2005

I thought it didn't. Thats why people used Grief. So, then who has a definitive guide on what smite does and doesn't do? Someone posted something in the character developement guide, but apparently thats wrong then

To quote myself in this guide:

Cauhtemoc Wrote:Q: So how come you've suggested that I make Phoenix and Exile in a Zakarum Shield? Vortex Shield has much higher damage and defence!

A: I never suggested you made an Exile in the first place, there are far better shields out there. The Vortex Shield has a higher maximum damage, but the average damage is still the same.

An upgraded and Um'd Herald of Zakarum with Dracul's Grasp is much better. Period.

WarriorOfD2X Wrote:stop asking what's the best smiter weapon, no question, phase blade grief is #.1

Once again, quote from my guide (here):

Cauhtemoc Wrote:The two main weapons you should consider for making Grief are either Berserker Axe or Phase Blade.

The Berserker Axe has a very long range, which only one other one-handed weapon in the entire game that can match (more on that later). The Phase Blade has got a shorter range, but is so much faster (which you'll notice later). If you do happen to be wealthy, definitely consider this one.

Berserker Axe is better. Period.

[The Reaper] Wrote:Did you have to repair your weapon ever? My grief zerk's durability seems to go down really fast.

Smite uses weapon durability, and lots of it.

DownholeTool Wrote:So, then who has a definitive guide on what smite does and doesn't do? Someone posted something in the character developement guide, but apparently thats wrong then

Do people even read the stickies? Once again, quote from my guide (here):

Cauhtemoc Wrote:4. The basics of Smite and how it works
Before we move on with some suggested gear I'm going to go through the different equipment modifications that actually work with Smite. Let's first take a look at how Smite actually works. Smite allows the Paladin to attack his enemies with his shield, rather than his weapon. It's an unblockable attack that always hits (it always hits). It also depends on weapon speed and range oddly enough, so choose your weapon wisely. Most equipment modifications work with Smite, but there are a few exceptions.

Increased Attack Speed
All sources of increased attack speed work with Smite.

Enhanced Damage
Non-weapon enhanced damage works with Smite. Enhanced damage from a weapon does *NOT* work.

Strength
Higher strength will mean that you do more damage. Just like on a normal attack.

Elemental damage from equipment or auras
This does *NOT* work with Smite.

Physical damage from items
This is the most complicated rule. Items where the additional damage is worded *EXACTLY* like Grief and Asteron's Iron Ward will add damage. Everything else will *NOT* work.

Crushing Blow
This works with Smite.

Open Wounds
This also works with Smite.

Deadly Strike
This does *NOT* work with Smite.

Knocback
There's already a knockback effect on Smite, so this does *NOT* work.

Prevent Monster Heal
This works like normal.

Life and mana leech
Just like it says at Arreat Summit, Smite does *NOT* leech.

Life Tap
In contrary to what I said above, Smite works excellent with Life Tap.

Chance to Cast
This works with Smite, even if found on the weapon.

Hit Blinds Target, Hit Causes Monster to Flee, Hit Freezes Target and Hit Slows Target
All of these work like normal.

Well, first of all...
If you can avoid Draculs/Last Wish/Exile alltogether, do it. I would suggest putting something like a Vile Grim Wand of Life Tap (Prevent monster heal, life tap charges) on your switch. Your most important stat is vitality, so Grief Zerker might be a bit out there, unless you're rich. I'd go with a Black Flail. Easy, cheap, and good. As for Draculs vs Exile...
Draculs gives a 5% chance to cast a lvl 10 Life Tap.
Exile gives a 15% chance to cast a lvl 5 Life Tap.
The level doesn't matter too much, but note that level 10 life tap has almost twice the radius of lvl 5, and it lasts over 13 seconds longer. It doesn't really make much of a difference, but the difference between Draculs and Exile is almost nothing. But wait! Draculs give 10-15 str, and even a 25% open wounds chance. If they had IAS, they would be hands down the best gloves possible for a smiter (even without CB). So, Draculs are simply much better than their counterparts, but what about Exile and HoZ?
+150-200% Enhanced Defense (varies)
30% Increased Chance Of Blocking
30% Faster Block Rate
20% Bonus To Attack Rating
+20 To Strength
+20 To Vitality
All Resistances +50
+2 To Paladin Skill Levels
+2 To Combat Skills (Paladin Only)

VS.

15% Chance To Cast Level 5 Life Tap On Striking
Level 13-16 Defiance Aura When Equipped (varies)
+2 To Offensive Auras (Paladin Only)
+30% Faster Block Rate
Freezes Target
+220-260% Enhanced Defense (varies)
Replenish Life +7
+5% To Maximum Cold Resist
+5% To Maximum Fire Resist
25% Better Chance Of Getting Magic Items
Repairs 1 Durability in 4 Seconds

Things to consider: The Exile can have a base shield res of up to 45 res all, but with then HoZ base 50, and open socket, it can simply have much more. IMO, the Kurast Shield is simply the best smite shield, due to consistant damage, and the upgraded form of the HoZ is the Kurast. Also, remember that Exile has much, much, much more defense than HoZ when Defiance and ethereal mods are taken into account. HoZ has much more blocking, meaning that you can cocentrate more on Vita, as opposed to Dex. HoZ gives 20 str, and 20 vita, which are always useful. HoZ also will do more damage, due to +4 combat skills total, whereas Exile has +0 to combat skills. If I were Rich and could afford a perfect [p def, 45 base res] Ethereal 'Exile' Kurast Shield, I would likely go with that, because my other items could make up for what Exile lacks. Of course, HoZ is always, and probably always will be a solid smiter choice. If you cannot get a perf eth kurast exile, go with the HoZ.

False. Period.
This isnt PvP smiter building, this is Smiter vs Uber trist. Zerker has 3 range out of possible 3 on 1hands. pb has 2 out of 3. this may seem like much but unlike in pvp, u wont do a "1 hit kill" on primevils, so this doesnt matter much.

Zakarum, not Kurast Tongue
