Favourite character of LOTR - mikea454 - 05-09-2006 Wow only one other person went aragorn with me... come-on shadowy ranger swinging a lengendary sword. Ok so its no 6ft claymore like william wallace, but still pretty cool Favourite character of LOTR - Z3R0 - 05-10-2006 SpoonMan999 Wrote:Like every other elf in Middle Earth... In case you fell asleep during the movie[s], every other elf in Middle Earth uses a bow and a scimitar. Legalos uses a bow and twin daggers. Nice try though. Favourite character of LOTR - SpoonMan999 - 05-10-2006 Actually he uses kukris...nice try though. And I meant the part where they were all some kind of super sniper bad ass. Which are basicly just twin dagggers. Nice try though. Anyway, they do have an extrodinary amount of skill with a bow. Favourite character of LOTR - SpoonMan999 - 05-11-2006 Actually they are nothing like daggers...daggers are short and meant to be more of a piercing weapon, though you can slash kind of the same principle as a rapier, where as kukris have an odd bend in them and are usually twice as a long or more than daggers. Nice try though. Nice try though. A scimitar has a slight curve to it, but is still considered a sword. There are many types of daggers, just like many types of swords, but in general, a sword is a sword and a dagger is a dagger. Favourite character of LOTR - SpoonMan999 - 05-11-2006 A sword is a general weapon...a claymore is a sword where as a dagger is a specific weapon and it's generalized category would be knives. And I believe a kukri would be a sword since most I've seen are about the same size as small rapiers. Favourite character of LOTR - Z3R0 - 05-11-2006 Hmmm...you make a good point but still, no matter how many diversities of knives and swords there are, it all comes back to general terms (i.e. sword and knife). Favourite character of LOTR - SpoonMan999 - 05-11-2006 And as I said I believe a kukri is more a short sword than it is a knife. Favourite character of LOTR - Z3R0 - 05-11-2006 But they really aren't that long. In magazines that sell the replicas, they are labled twin fighting knives. Favourite character of LOTR - SpoonMan999 - 05-12-2006 Either way it's still not a dagger for the fact that they are meant specifically to be a slashing weapon. Favourite character of LOTR - Z3R0 - 05-12-2006 *sigh*, but scimitars are slashing weapons, yet still swords. Favourite character of LOTR - SpoonMan999 - 05-12-2006 Again a sword is a general term and actually most swords are more efficient as slashing weapons where as a dagger is really meant to be a piercing weapon. Favourite character of LOTR - Z3R0 - 05-12-2006 Most swords are either broadswords or straightswords which are used for thrusting, not slashing. His weapons may be used for slashing, but they still fall under the same general category as "knives". Just as strightswords, broadswords, and scimitars fall under the general category of "swords". Favourite character of LOTR - SpoonMan999 - 05-12-2006 I wasn't arguing whether or not they were swords or knives I just said I would guess they'd be swords, my point was they are not daggers. Favourite character of LOTR - Z3R0 - 05-12-2006 Hmmm...so what shall we call them? Half sword; half dagger. Shall we call them Swaggers? Maybe not... Favourite character of LOTR - SpoonMan999 - 05-12-2006 I think we've spammed this thread enough and you're still not getting my point, they're nothing like daggers other than they are short blades. Favourite character of LOTR - Z3R0 - 05-12-2006 But do to their shortness, they are not quite swords either. Favourite character of LOTR - Immortality - 05-18-2006 Lolz this is about LOTR not about kind of swords and daggers. Favourite character of LOTR - Z3R0 - 05-18-2006 We're talking about the weapons that Legolas uses. |
