About being a mod? Sometimes people (even the mods) need to remember that you can't be everyone's friend. You have no idea how many times I've been asked to ban someone just because... and you don't understand how many times I've seen mods NOT punish someone's actions because they were friends.

I was never here to be anyone's friend. I was here to share information about Diablo II and was made a mod because I'm easily respected, had great knowledge of the game and had great judgement. I was STILL not here to be friends with anyone on the forums and I don't think I ever allowed friendships to get in the way of punishing people's actions.

Mods need to remember this.

At least the admin will do the mods job. Even though the mods dont usually see all the spam math posts so i guess its not really their fault.

Pretty much. I.e. this guy is like: "Can I have a WW sin guide please?", so I send him a long ass PM explaining a WW sin, justifing why I chose those items and stuff. Couldn't be any clearer, yet he still gets my msn and annoies me for the next 2 hours coming up with the dumbest shit. [/rant]

Something I have always wanted to come out and say, but I was too afraid to actually make the post.

Very well said Pam, I had my own experiance of someone asking me to PM a super mod and ask for someone else to be unbanned recently. I just shook my head as I would have not done it even if he had paid me (I am not going to mention names here).

I love the comment in making a "campaign for mod" too. It reminds me of someone, who again, will remain nameless.

That's why there is a "report this post" option, because they can't review every single post.

The whole point of the post was to point out that being a mod or Super Mod or Admin is not going to make you powerful if this is what you are hoping.
Forum abilities? yah..sure...you will have those...but respect you have to earn. When someone comes to me and asks me to ask another to make them a Mod...it really pisses me off.
Moderating takes wisdom and hours of reading over threads and reported threads.
Knowing where to move a post or a thread.
Being strong enough to warn with validity, and being strong enough to face the criticism that (always) follows any choice you make.

You can not please everyone...and guess what?
It is NOT THEIR JOB...to please you.
Whow! Thats an insite!
The job they do is specific given whatever Forum they are assigned to.
If SuperMod...I salute/pray for you.
te function of being in charge is to make decisions...and raise your hand if you want a moron making decisions.

I didn't think so.
Now let them do their jobs and if you have issues take it up with that individual.
If you feel you can not handle this report the post and send a Mod a PM....do NOT go running off to an Instant Messenger to tattletale/whine/be idiotic...to a person that A)Can't help you B) Suddenly thinks you lost all of your brainwaves.

Man, who was the idiot that pissed you off Pam? You're on a roll. So roll with it!

About being a Mod - Pamela - 10-27-2006

Several actually on this forum and another.Asking me to talk to admins and Mods for them.It is not only this site. Keep in mind a few things. I was a SuperMod here,an Admin on 2 other sites, and a SuperMod on another site.
I know what the job entails...what pisses me off is people thinking they can use this to sway people that are actually IN CHARGE.From a Mods point of view it is like an enemy sneaking up from behind and attacking you.
It is going thru someone of influence instead of using proper channels.
I will not name names...I wanted only to establish that this kind of behavior is wrong.

About being a Mod - Z3R0 - 10-27-2006

I concur. It is a form of cowardice. As if they don't want the mod to know that they had anything to do with it.

hell hath no fury like a woman scorned?

About being a Mod - Z3R0 - 10-28-2006

Scorned, or just really pissed off?

About being a Mod - Pamela - 10-28-2006

Just really pissed off. I have a massive amount of respect for Mods and Admins...some more than others...partly because I know how hard the job is.
Partly because I know them as individuals and the respect grew even more.
You guys have no Idea how lucky you are to have the leaders you have on this site.
They are smart and make good decisions...I support them. If i dissagree with a choice they make I will take it up with them in a PM...guess what? ....This has yet to happen!

About being a Mod - Z3R0 - 10-28-2006

I have no problems with our mods or staff. They are all pretty cool and I don't think that I have had one argument with any of them. They are all understanding and just fun people who do the best they can. But I guess some people can't realize that. Like the people who pm you Pam.

About being a Mod - Pamela - 10-29-2006

Oh honey it is not really a PM that bugs me.Let me tell you a true story from another site.Someone was using the shoutbox for very intimate personal use on this site.
They messaged me up because they got warned and were asking multiple questions about the warning.Wanting ME to go to the Admin that didt it and go to any other of the Mods I knew and was friends with to *Talk to them* I talked to them alright to tell them what these people were asking of me.They were subsequently banned. The bad thing is one was himself a Mod ....it was ridiculous.I will NOT be used in this manner...not even by another Mod.When the owner of the site asked me I told him what they were doing ...and that I did not think it was cool.I was not the only one that was approached for this purpose.I suggested a conference and we all compared notes. These members had been using other members and mods to make changes through freindship and not chain of command.I felt this terribly WRONG and I wanted to be honest and upfront with the people in charge.

How can she? She will be too busy marrying me.

Again great post Pam. I was also surprised to see you mad, but it is totally justified as I know the feeling when people do the same thing to me.

I don't get it. If they get banned they act like it was "random ban a user day". When it's a logical ban.
