well I'm bored and going to start this up again........
Say your're running a new linux setup. Kernel version 2.6.x, and you're having problems loading hardware modules after you recompile the kernel with the new modules. You are not cross compiling, and the modules are tried and true, since they worked on your old 2.4 kernel setup. What's the problem, and how can we fix it ladies?

Find a nice version of Ubuntu, or roll back to 2.4

not sure what the problem is, but it's definitely due to 2.6.x. Roll back to current 2.4 like Dan said.
or **** around until you either break your box or fix the problem.

I don't use Linux but rolling back seems to be your best bet, if there are no updated drivers available.
As far as software issues go I'm not the best at fixing things I know more about hardware. I take precautions against issues with my computer, multiple harddrives to boot from in case one fails and so on.

Since Woot stopped posting these, i'll put a personal problem i ran into last night up here, nothing big just troublesome.
Say you're trying to mount a new (root) partition /dev/hdc2 but mount is saying that there is no /dev/hdc2 to mount What do you do? The other partition you made (/dev/hdc1, your swap partition) will mount fine if you try to.
