Graphics Card - SpoonMan999 - 12-08-2007 I was going to make the exact same point Daddy so I'll just show my support and say well done. I agree with the guy above me, 8800 GT is a much better card for the money. Graphics Card - slashbomb - 12-08-2007 Yea, I would buy it if I had the cash. The cads are good but its just to improve the framerates of the games I want to play (CS:S and WoW). Probably wont be using it as much as I like so a 8800GT is just a waste for me I'll probably end up buying it next year when I get a new laptop for college. That way this comp wont be outdated. Ty guys, 8800GT is good, probably wait until it gets to $200. Graphics Card - Daddy_XL - 12-08-2007 It should be that low by summer if not by late spring when college semester is ending. Graphics Card - FrogMan - 12-08-2007 Well just ran two 8800gt ultras on a 850 watt coolmaster power supply in SLI only thing is the cards to powerfull and now game really stretches it not even crysis it basically runs the same as my 7600GT's in sli(although there is a slight difference)... be nice to see a game that can use these cards. Graphics Card - bigdeath - 01-28-2008 Dont mean to revive but I had a question. I'm lookin at a 7900gt or an 8600 gs. Which one is best for the money? I know all the specs point to the 8600 as it uses dx10 and shader 4 as well as faster clock speeds. But I hear the 7900 does a little better. Is it worth getting a dx10 card for the same cash and spare a little performance for the same price? Or do you guys know one that will blow both of these away for around the the same price range? Reason I ask is cause Kane and Lynch, Bioshock, And Gears of war will barely run with my integrated graphics and I been needin to upgrade anyway. Graphics Card - The Mob - 01-28-2008 im surprised that they run at all with integrated graphics. lol you could sli the 8600's.. they are pretty cheap now adays. Graphics Card - bigdeath - 01-28-2008 It comes with an integrated card thats pretty good as far as integrated cards go. I can play fear no problem. Oh yeah I only got one PCI-E slot. Which blows. Graphics Card - The Mob - 01-28-2008 oh. if thats the case, then shop around for an 8600 gts or something like that. Graphics Card - bigdeath - 01-28-2008 Thats what I was looking at. They say the 7900 is faster for some reason even though all the stats seem to indicate other wise. Clock speed gbp/s fill rate, dx, sm, the only thing the 7900 has over it is bus size. Graphics Card - SpoonMan999 - 01-28-2008 Bus speed can make all the difference some times. I think it'd be better to have the 8600 since having DX10 will increase the life span, where as the 7900 you'd have to replace in a year or so when DX10 becomes the standard. Graphics Card - FrogMan - 01-28-2008 Well catch 22 really my 7600gt's in sli run better than my mates 8800gt ultras because of dx10 atm not preforming well under the 8 series. Although this could change with the release of the 9 series soon. Graphics Card - bigdeath - 01-28-2008 That was kinda my thinking. Maybe they'll update the drivers to make dx10 run smoother or something. I just know going from my onboard to a midgrade card is probably gonna make me cream my jeans. Cause it has to be one hell of an improvement. My old comp that runs linux has an old agp 5500 in it and I don't think it would be able to handle all the desktop effects without it. If yall cant understand what I typed keep in mind its 6 in the morning and I'm not entirely awake lol. Graphics Card - Dan - 01-31-2008 Best bet prolly is the 8600, but if you can stand the wait, the prices will most likely go down as it gets closer to the release date of the 9 series. Graphics Card - bigdeath - 01-31-2008 When are they plannin to do this? Another thing I see they are moving towards the dual core on gpus as well. If i get an 8800gt think it will be a while before its obsolete with the dual core technology on the way? Graphics Card - Dan - 01-31-2008 I think they are planned to be released around November or December this year, not 100% positive though. And with the dual proc thing, I would have no idea, I just found out about it today. Graphics Card - bigdeath - 01-31-2008 Oh well I cant wait that long. Having all these games and not really being able to play them torture. Graphics Card - slashbomb - 02-08-2008 UPDATE: So my bro got his laptop for college, so I decided to update my card with a 8600GT : Newegg.com - EVGA 256-P2-N751-TR GeForce 8600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Supported Video Card - Retail Plays Cod4 and cs ![]() Ty, I woulda spent xtra since a 8800gt is around $240 but then I woulda spent a xtra $50 for a power supply upgrade. So i saved $200 on this purchase where i can put towards other stuff. I'll help pick some accessories like a flash drive, speakers, laserjet printer, etc. ty all but i am happy with a mid-range 8600gt Graphics Card - bigdeath - 02-09-2008 I got the 512mb 8800gt OC yesterday and it ****in owns! I can't believe how good call of duty4 looks now. Thanks for the help yall. |
