I just started playing D2/LoD a few days ago, and I have a level 80 Smiter Paladin but the problem is that my equipment sucks. How in the hell can I upgrade anything? Any of the stuff that drops in normal games is too weak and I get destroyed in the nightmare games by any caster (all bosses).
My defense is at like 4900, and I actually seem to deal with melee monsters pretty easily, but casters eat me alive. In Nightmare games the monsters in the first area right outside Rouge area take about 1/3 of my life with a single spell, however the melee ones, I can have 30 of them on me at once and they can't touch me.
So, how am I supposed to upgrade my magic resists when I'm too weak to touch any casters that would drop good equipment? Also, I don't know anyone who plays so I don't have any friends to give me anything, and it seems like everyone else has way better equipment than me, no one else is willing to group up and kill Andarial in Nightmare or anything like that and split the drops.
Is there something I'm missing here? Some simple bosses that drop good equipment or something that will let me progress to the harder stuff?

first of all smiiters are usually pvp and what r your stats it sounds like you have low life and bad resists but yea, smiters suck at pvm make a zealer but if you want this char to be pvm do baal norm or meph runz since you cant do norm but if your 80 then you should be pretty okay to do nm my advice make a strict pvm char smiters are for duels

if u want there is probably a better weapon for ur smiter, its called "black" and u put it in a 4 socket flail. the runes arent that hard to find and the flail will allow u to kill nm andy even if your resists are bad try buying some antiodote potions since they give you 85 psn resistance if your psn resist is at 0. also make sure u did the 3rd quest in act 5 where u rescue anya and get a scroll that gives you +10 to all resistances permanently.
alternativly, look around at this site, make a light sorc build, use her hellforges to get some decent items (lem-um) comes from nm, lem can get u a shako which is a nice starting helm. and in hell u can get (lem-ist) or lower. make sure u look at the price guide on this site so u dont accidently trade an ist for a shako. after that try finding the runes for "insight" its a great cheap merc weapon if your ladder, then get your sorc to lvl 80 or so with a lvl 50 merc, and try botting in hell using d2jsp/yamb. u can then trade ur runes for better equipment.

Partially correct, Black is made in 3 sockets Flails, with the runes Thul, Io and Nef. They drop almost everywhere, so virtually everyone should be able to afford one.

Well if you play uswest ladder I would be willing to give you a grief I screwed up and made in a dimesional blade. Not amazing but Im guessing that it will be 100 times better than any wep your using, right now im botting so just drop me a pm if were on the same realm.
