Ping - [/sarcasm] - 05-01-2005 I'm not sure if there is a cure for high-ping, but is there any way I can reduce it any? I have a good internet connection, but my ping is often around 250-300 and I don't really know how to do anything about it, since I can't watch music videos or anything it's so bad. Ping - A|fzZz - 05-01-2005 Hmmm....mayb play around with ur rwin settings? I think thats for download only lol.. Or get more ram... Ping - Obfuscate - 05-01-2005 RAM will NOT cure ping. Setup a firewall and block all your open ports. That should stop the ping, at least most of it. That or find the IP's that are pinging you and just ping living crap out of them. Ping by the way simply slows your internet connection. Why because a ping basicly sends a signal from one computer to another and measures the amount of time it take the other computer to answer and for the answer to get back to the original computer. Great way to eat up someones internet speed as each answer takes up a certain amount of bandwidth. Ping - [/sarcasm] - 05-01-2005 I've got like... 768 ram, I think, so I'm pretty sure that isn't the problem, and I have no idea what rwin settings are. I go through a router, but I'm connected directly to it through hardwires, but that may be a problem still. I just took a ping test and it turns out that averages pings were: 276, 296, 411, 386, 377, and 517, so it's a LOT worse than I thought. Also, are there any firewalls that will help me that are free, or am I going to have to blow 30 bucks? |
