it is always safest to leave them on a mule and then when you need to use them, if yuo dont have another cd key, make sure there is a friend online to perm them after you trade/ make something with them

You can't just perm them once. You have to perm them every game.

Yup, it is the safest to keep in mule until you are going to trade it.
Or
If you make a runeword out of it then it will automatically be permed. Just telling you if you didn't know.
