i hate my internet - DaCougarMech - 08-12-2005 so im having problems with my home modem and router to dispel questions, right now im typing this using some random wireless connection anyway, i have a downstairs computer that connects to a router and a modem it looks like this: phone line -------modem ------router------computer but now it doesnt work and i cant figure it out. i cant find what has the problem cause if i use just the modem then the comp works but i dont have wireless upstairs: phone line------modem-----comp: only downstairs comp works phone line------modem-----router-----comp: no comp works i thought at first that my router was dead so i bought a new one. however, it still had the same problem as before so i know it's not the router's problem but my modem still works when directly connected to the computer i am very frustrated and confused and would appreciate any advice i hate my internet - OOTF - 08-23-2005 aaahhh.. i dont quite understand what your saying... if you plug the modem directly into one computer.. .only that computer is going to be able to get online.. im assuming that your router is what is serving the wireless... idk you have me lost.. but if your phone line is working and you can connect to each separate computer in your house through just the modem.... then its fairly obvious that your router is the problem.... but i really dont understand what your talking about you need to give me some more info and ill see if i can help you some more after that i hate my internet - SoulessKnight - 08-23-2005 This might be a stupid question but did you install the driver disk for the router and make sure it saw both computers and gave them ips like 001 and 002 there should be a disk there and then you access the router ip on a web browser and go throught the wizard and it should see both.... i am hoping you would know enough to do this before hand but its still worth reminding you about. |
