In Search of Tips for Hardcore Builds - xenn2600 - 11-13-2005
Hi all,
I've recently gotten bored of owning softcore with my large variety of godlike builds, and I've gotten into hardcore. At first I made a summoner necromancer, thinking, from my past knowledge, that it was the best PVM with extremely bad items, and I still believe that is the case. However, I died at level ~60 after going through a waypoint and getting connection interrupted, and then realm down... It was a private room, so I must just be really unlucky, lol. I don't really feel like making another summon necromancer, which is the reason for this post.
Anyway, to the point, are there any other builds I can try that are based purely on PVM survival, or survival in general, that I can make starting off with nothing? Killing speed and such do not really matter to me. I'd be satisfied with a wierd hybrid build, maybe something that takes more strategy than usual. I've tried out a summon/fire hybrid druid, which I read was good for untwinked hardcore, and wasn't very interested. I also tried out a hammerdin with maxed meditation/prayer and meditation as his main aura, which wasn't all that bad, but I don't fancy hammerdins too much. Any tips would be appreciated ^_^

try a wind druid....max oak 1st and get cyc armor maxed somewhere in there too...your best chance of doing decent with no items....i reccomend this order of maxing, oak, tornado, cyc armor, hurricane, then work on twister. also get carrion vine and an insight merc is really helpful. for the merc i recommend holy freeze..the extra time it gives you between the monsters seeing you and reaching you can save your life

Get rid of pot prejudice. I know in softcore players don't like to use their pots, well here do it or lose all that hard work. Play smart and watch out for pkers. Im not sure if a new tppk module has been created for 1.11 yet, but if it has, dont let higher lvl chars help u w/ arcane unless u know them

Yep TPPK is out there and i always see people being owned. It's actually quite safe to play with a sorc, all you need is a Wizzy and that costs a pul in hc so you can probably get it after hellforge.

i dont play hardcore but i think a kicksin wouldn't be too bad.
max fade,weapon block,shadow master, and 2 kick skills (never ade kicksin so idk), a pt in blade shield and all prereqs.
it sounds like a good build to me,
just get good boots
fade = max res
weapon block = less dmg from meelee atcks
shadow master = meat shield
blade sheld = more protection
kicks = your attacks

ww barb might be a good choice, with good dmg, life, mana and defense. i am not sure though, i do not play hc

Melee is not a very good idea in my opinion if you want to be safe.

melee is very dangerous for HC, especially in areas where death knight guys are prominent....IM=bye bye HC char
thats why i havent suggested any melee chars....and as one of the few people on this thread that actually play HC, and having reached lvl 80+ many times, even 90+ a couple, i consider myself somewhat of an authority, so if your interested in starting HC you would be wise to at least consider my suggestions.
speaking of which, here is another one i am currently testing: hybrid necro. summoner for nice living shield and psn or bone for damage. currently i am testing poison because you will get far closer to maxing it after putting points in skellys. psn takes only 60 pts to max as opposed to bone takes 120 to max. with the 48 points you will use for summons, that extra 60 is a hell of a lot closer to attainable than the 120

only time IM is dangerous is if ur using an unstoppable attack such as zeal or ww otherwise u can just run away or wait to get cursed with a diff curse

Im doing a Bear for hardcore. stats are bear, lycan, shockwave, maul, and oaksage. For IM, you can easily spot the curse once it is casted on you, so the only problem is if they cast on you when you are already in your attack sequence.
