Laptop screen problems - Dan - 12-19-2005

my laptop, which is several years old (has a 750 mhz p3 processor that runs at 850 mhz) has a screen that is starting to bug out on me. the pixels are flickering to a redish pink color, it isnt making it so the screen is unreadable, but its just really annoying. also sometimes when i hit the side of the screen in just the right spot the flickering will stop for a while, then start again. is my screen dieing or is a connection loose, or whatever, i would like to hear any solutions you can think of, except for buy a new laptop, because this one works just fine for what it is used for, and i dont have the money at the time. oh ya, the laptop runs windows xp pro if that makes a difference. thx

sounds like old age to me unfortunately.. you haven't had a magnet next to it recently or a pair of hi-fi speakers for a extended period of time?

i dunno if you can degauss on a laptop monitor, but if you can, try doing that. It should be under the monitor's options.

Either old age or a loose plug. If you have a small local computer repair shop, see what they can do/know about it. And you can't degauss LCD monitors (which is too bad becuase that's fun to do :p)

Back up the files you have your hard drive and get a new laptop. Wink

well the most i would have for a new one is $160, so ya doubt i'll find one for that, oh well like i said its more of a nusance, i'll live with it till it dies, then have my parents get me the new alienware laptop i just saw today (THEY FINALLY SWITCHED TO AMD) and tell her its for school Smile

If you care, you should be able to find a replacement screen on eBay, and it doubt it would be too terribly hard to fix. Or you could just wait and get the Alienware.

If there are white dots on your screen it would be that pixels are missing, Your problem however seems to be a loose connection. Take a screw driver and remove the top panel off your LCD, and reconnect the cable. That will most likely fix the problem. If your looking for a cheap solution, buy a monitor and connect it to the back of your laptop, switch the display to external and use the other monitor. But it really sounds like a loose connection. Also laptops cant be degauss'd.

LCDs period can't be degaussed, like I said. Although my mom has a really old laptop with a CRT in it, so I guess you could degauss that laptop :p
