after reading DMC's post in "again,a thanks" do you think d2 sector is winding down and what should be done to attract new users to the forums?

(also i have a gut feeling that i may be warned for this since this is sorta like "how would you improve the site" thread)

We get lots of new users everyday.
Things are going slow, but it will soon pick up again.

I voted yes because it has been losing users since the 1.10 patch because of all of the other games that have came out (WoW mainly). But thats why Spit changed it to Blizzard sector for more variety and more members instead of the whole site being about one game.

Uhh Blizzard released to EBgames, Gamestop, etc.. that they will be working on D3 in 2006 a long assed time ago, there is no information on it because Blizzard like always are a bunch of procrastinators.

I think things will pick up again in the summer but overall they will have died down compared to a year or so ago. We no longer get any new active members, everyone is just looking to DL hacks and want to make no commitment . Also most of us who are actually active arent D2 addicts anymore. I would'nt even bother signing in once a month if I wasent a moderator.

It has been a low point. Ever since Christmas, we've been lying kinda dormant. I've suggested adding Halo 2 to the list of forums, but nothing's been done yet. It's especially bad for me, because I don't play D2 anymore and I'm only here for the small talk, which has been running dry.

Is BlizzSec winding down? - Nubli - 01-12-2006

Well if we actually had mods who played the game.. =)

D2 sector truly is winding down. The fact that a lot of the forums are split up now makes it seem even more so. Yeah, I do think it's because of WoW that d2sector is losing its members. Perhaps a comprehensive WoW site similar to thottbot or allakhazam will invite more members who play both. Someone said earlier that the arrival of patch 1.1 marked the commencement of d2sector's decline. I agree with that too. In my opinion, d2sector was a so sucessful in the past was because of the hacks section, which brought members into the community. I remember when d2sector had two or three bars in google's pagerank. Now it's down to none.

Really, it's sort of a vicious circle. There are a ton of people online every day, but they don't post because there isn't anything interesting to talk about... And there's nothing interesting to talk about because people don't post.

I can't say that blizzsector is winding down because all of the various sections that were created in the forums created a general wider view of interest towards gamers of different games. I believe the above mentioned of yes talking about the hacks is true - although I may not personally approve of them the hacks section is one of the sections that brings members (or makes them leave), and as the birth of Warden and the banning of those using various hacks occured, many decided they could simply not live without their 3rd party programs and left Diablo 2. They may have stayed around for some of the Small Talk or some other kind of non-Diablo 2 talk, but eventually they may have seemed to stop being involved in the forums all-together.

With the birth of each successful patch or some other major D2 event there seems to be an increasing number of members that visit the forums to be able to talk about the first glimpse of the specific event. We seem to be fine now though, i think we can look forward to many years together as new members knowledgable of the game grow out of the ashes of those who have came through the forums and left. Take for instance the guy who made that MF Barb guide - i found it to be quite knowledgable, and he even knew what the Arreat Summit is and how it can be used for knowledge (sometimes new members may ask many questions that can easily be found there).

I do play D2, unfortunately I don't duel nor do I really trade, so that takes me out of the knowledge of about half of what goes on in the D2 world.

<= yes, interesting. Big Grin I aboslutely agree.

Jedi, o man you're missing out. Half the fun of D2 was playing with the economy.

I don't believe that D2S is winding down either. This seems to be usually the low point of the year, people have to go to school, and work, and don't always have time to come on D2S or any forums for that matter and post things. When school is out a whole new wave of idiots will come and spam and get Nub and other moderators to work. Hopefully, if we are lucky enough, 3 people out of the wave will be intelligent and be welcomed at the forums.

Yes, this place always seems like it, since only regulars post often.

New people don't usually post, since they're just registering for downloads or to make one post for help.

I think it's time for a prediction. After reading the previous post, I predict that D2Sector will be down by December 2007. With the arrival of the two June/Julies, I also predict that fewer and fewer members will come.
I hope nobody thinks I'm bashing d2sector. I really appreciate this site, but I'm just calling it how I perceive it.
