I'd like to dispell another MF myth - Allisurd - 04-15-2004
Just before the 1.10 patch came out I read somewhere (I can't remember where) that the first time you kill a super unique, ie. pindle, mephi and so on, that you get a much better drop from them. Did anyone else read this anywhere? If not I can put it down to old age and move on with my life...

Actually I think that whenever you kill a boss for the first time you get great items. I could mf with my fire sorc against andy in hell and I find shit. But when I was using my javazon, i helped out my friend. It was her first time doing andy in hell, and she had tons of mf. Only one unique dropped, but it was gore riders =P

i'm not a walking encyclopedia at diablo 2 (yet.....moi-ha-ha), but i would think that the drops found, even if it was your first kill of that boss, would simply be depended on the conmbonation of A) mf, B) luck, and C) your clvl. i dunno if this is rite, please dont hate me and throw me in a grave and chant a meditation for my death (just read a poem in lit called Thantatopsis or something that is a romantic era poem that talks about death), just some friendly ideas to think about....

any time i kill one for the first time i get mostly rare's and sometimes uniques or sets depending on the diff and boss, but when i go back and rekill them i just get magic bullspit and maybe a rare, but the best items i get, suprisingly, are from low lvl creatures of the diff ur in, once on nm i got 3 sets in a row(crap though) from a group of devil kin

Thanks people, I never noticed better drops on first kills before, but I'll look out for it. At least I'm not dreaming up Diablo II rumours again.

I've dreamt up many d2 rumors before, but everyone told me it was crazy... only to find out a few weeks later everyone is doing it!!! Happened at least 3 times these past 5 months.

I highly doubt these rumors. Drops are randomly generated. If you read about magic finding and drops, there is no way they can make the game know that it was the first time you killed a boss so you automatically get a unique. And just to get off topic, that duck does not look likes its made outta rubber. Maybe cotton or something...lol

It's easy enough, if they quest is activated, then you drop better. Although technically the drop is before the quest... but hey I don't make the rules. And for your information Norman is all plastic baby.

it doesnt seem to matter to me, usually i just mf with my blizz sorc, (300%) mf and kill meph, sometimes i get a rare, sometimes i get a ss (like this morning) and just make sure if your mfing with a fb sorc that you get the last hit by possibly using meteor for an always hit instead of fb (my stupid merc was too powerfull and on several occasions he got the last hit giving the drop 0% mf)

i read somewhere that the blizz peps put a program in that recognizes when u have done a boss previously and therefore it knows to give worse items, if u use zonefire u can see at the quest tab for quest accomplishment it will offer 3 possibilities, not done, recently done, and long done, so on open u could reset the quest and get good items again

The treasure class of certain items to drop are higher on first boss kills. Check out the following link. On the left where it lists, "Shortcut(1.10)," select a boss (Andy and Duriel are not listed for some reason, but you can find Andy here and Duriel here), check "MonsterData," and click "jump." Scroll to the very bottom of the page to get the stats on TC drop percentages.

hey if u really wanna mf just run around and kill unique enemies in hell there every where and they usually drop good stuff. o and so far ive found a wizardspike, hellslayer, shaftstop, cham, waterwalk and other stuff in 2 hours just running around with my 233mf sorc. all i did was run around and kill every monster in stoney field and frigid highlands and even pit/countess they have good drops. better then doing mephisto runs. O and for a fact once u kill a boss his drops decrease. I killed Baal on hell for the first time and got tal armr and tal crystal, i also got shaftstop and que-haegan wisdom, when i went to kill him again he dropped nothin but magics 21 times.

yeah skye's got a point about mfing on open... i mean wtf.. but as far as better 1st drops go... i believe yes it does matter if it's your 1st time... it's not like it would be difficult for bnet to auto-check b4 the drops are decided whether the quest had been completed or not... but if thats the deciding factor... why not kill a boss w/o getting the quest, that way you could mf him as if it were the first time, multiple times! i think there's a way to do that, it seems to me that in rushes it happen's an unnerving number of times in fact.. but i can't seem to put my finger on a particular example... but yeah, i'm sure sum1 knows what i'm talking about
