Good news and bad news.

Good news:

-Design has been scrapped, replaced with PS2 design.
-Analog sticks have a little more room to move, and have 10-bit sensitivity, not the PS2 8-bit.
-All PS3 controller will be wireless via Bluetooth.
-The new PS3 controller functionality is a very Wii-like function where it has 6 degrees of movement- up, down, left, right, front, back; so piloting a plane and stuff like that will now involve, *gasp!* physical movement.
-It can be hooked up via a USB cord to the PS3 to charge, and you can use it while it charges.
-The shoulder buttons have been enlarged a bit and been given a little more sensitivity.

Bad news:

-The controller only has 24 hours of life.
-Because of the motion sensing abilities of the new controller, force feedback has been removed, as it can seriously screw around with that new function.

Now, while it seems like a blatant Wii ripoff, remember that motion sensing like that has been around for like 10 years for stuff like the PC and various other applications, so it was bound to happen sometime. Looks like Sony wanted to take a shot at both Nintendo and Microsoft at the same time though, since they stole some of Nintendo's thunder and makes the X360 look like the only console not doing anything vastly different from the previous console.

Price:

Sony will be releasing 2 different versions of the PS3 on Nov. 17

$499 - 20 GB HDD, no wifi, no memory card slots, No HDMI ports
$599 - 60 GB HDD, with all the missing features above.

Also at E3 today, Sony showed the Dual Shock 3, which looks just like the dual shock 2, but its wireless with a usb port, and has sensors like Nintendo's controller. It no longer supports rumble. Thats basically the biggest news of the day from E3.

I don't see the lack of the rumble as a bad thing...that was annoying and I always turned it off.

So New, So High tech new controller forms... aka a Ps2 with a button in the middle and a usb on top. There's no way in hell I'm buying a Ps3. Even though I like to make fun of it, I plan on buying the wii because its dirt cheap and the controller would be fun to play around with.
Sony means Unreliable Products when translated to English from Japanese. The only chance I will ever buy the PS3 is if they finally fix the online system. It's so lame there.

That's not too much different from the 360, of course discs are different and what not but still the same. 600$ for a system is way overpriced my man.
You do know that most of the "experts" are saying the Blu-ray may be PS3's downfall because A.) Companies hate making games with blu-ray tech apparantly, B.) Since the technology is new, the discs will be slower than the other types like Xbox's. C.) Blu-ray will cost a lot more, 360 games are 60 when they come out, they expect PS3's to cost roughly 80.

If game console makers keep making all this crap more expensive, they'll have less customers. It sounds like they're really facsinated with all the technology and possiblities, but with prices like 600 dollars, can everyone really afford it?

PS3 Controller and pricing. - slashbomb - 05-27-2006

dont forget, u can play online on ps3 for free.

plus, a 25G blu-ray disc costs roughly $19-25

On April 10, 2006 TDK announced in a press release that it began shipping 25 GB BD-R and BD-RE media (at prices of $19.99 USD and $24.99 USD respectively). TDK also announced that it would be releasing 50 GB BD-R and BD-RE media later this year (at prices of $47.99 USD and $59.99 respectively). [20]

The PS3 is a joke. It's pretty sad when you can buy a Wii, a 360, and still have a few $s left over, instead of buying a PS3.

The only reason I'd even think about getting one, is Gran Turismo, after all, I bought a PS2 when GT4 came out just to play it.

I don't know how they can expect people to pay 80$ a game, the N64 had that problem. Pretty much the only reason we switched to discs, is because it's cheaper, and easier to program. Blu-ray kinda destroys that, and really what kind of game is 25gb?

PS3 Controller and pricing. - slashbomb - 06-13-2006

acaully blu-ray is high-definition cd reader

so it enables better reading from the disc at a high-definition setting

PS3 Controller and pricing. - wm_hunter - 06-13-2006

I expect it to level off at 65\70, not quite 80 dollars, but still slightly higher then usual (for games).

Working it out, it is at least $1500 to buy everything about the PS2 stand-alone. I don't find $500 to be too much, as it says in the thread about Sony saying it was too cheap (I like this quote)

Quote:Because the PS3 is like nothing else.

For instance, is it not nonsense to compare the charge for dinner at the company cafeteria with dinner at a fine restaurant? It's a question of what you can do with that game machine. If you can have an amazing experience, we believe price is not a problem.
