Monster Resist question - New-b - 05-16-2006 I recently made a orb sorc and maxed out cold mastery and have merc with Infinity but when i try killing monster that are immune to cold it dont seem to reduce there resistance at all or dmg them. Why is it like this? Monster Resist question - jedimaster86 - 05-16-2006 Ok from what I have looked up in Arreat Summit, it appears that Infinity has a level 12 Conviction; this would be -85% resist I guess; however there is this quote: Arreat Summit Wrote:This aura, when breaking an immunity, will only function at 1/5 effectiveness. Therefore I guess 85 * .2 = 17, so I assume it would only take 17% off their resist, which is probably not enough to remove immunity. As for Cold Mastery, I will first post a quote from Arreat Summit: Arreat Summit Wrote:Cold Mastery will not work against monsters that are Immune to Cold. So even if you have Enemy Resistance -105%, they will still be Cold Immune and you will still be unable to damage them. So what's the point of 100%+ you might ask? Well if they are NOT Cold Immune, it will lower their Cold Resistance down below 0% which essentially means they will take more damage. It's just like when *you* have negative resistances in Nightmare/Hell difficulty. Therefore since the monster you are battling is still immune because I think you would still need to break the immunity (as of now the monster is still immune), and from the quote you can tell that cold mastery will only work if the monster is NOT immune to Cold. A lite sorc is a better option to be using a merc with infinity because there is another mod on Infinity which removes an extra 45-55% of the monsters lite immunity, which will allow them to recieve more lightning damage. I hope at least some of this helped - I was mostly going on research I found from Arreat Summit. Monster Resist question - New-b - 05-16-2006 Alright thanks Monster Resist question - Bloodangel26 - 05-16-2006 jedi is right on except for the extra -50% to enemy lite resists from infinity only helps your merc, not you. Monster Resist question - jedimaster86 - 05-16-2006 Yeh thanx blood. I guess I should also mention that Cold Mastery only works with monsters your sorc hits; not that it matters much since your merc doesn't plan on using cold attacks against him anyways. Arreat Summit Wrote:Cold Mastery will only lower the resistance of monsters that are hit by the Sorceress, this bonus cannot be shared with party members. |
