AVG Free is FREE and in the mind of many good tech pros, the best AntiVirus on the market. There is a link in my signature, from that page just click Get AVG Free and select the install file to begin the download.

If you have any problems using or installing it, or if you have any other questions, reply here or PM me.

..Or if you wanna clean minor problems you can also use Spy-ware doctor. Or you wanna know whats opening and entering your computer and protecting it from viruses entering use the software called "Zone Alarm".

Everyone here is talking about SYPWARE removers, he was asking about VIRUSES. Windows Defender is good and free for spyware, as are AdAware and Spybot.

Norton is complete crap for an AntiVirus, it just really is. Your teacher does not know what he\she is talking about, certified IT pros just laugh at Norton.

We do not support cracks on this site Aggie, nor do I suggest anyone to go out trying to find one with no experiance doing so. You will find nothing but viruses and bad files.

Spyware Doctor is ok for Spyware; just ok. If you want to pay for a spyware remover, go with Webroot Spysweeper. It is only on par (or as good as) a combo of Spybot\AdAware, but it is the best paid one on the market.

ZoneAlarm is the best free Firewall on the market, hands down. I do suggest buying a router, as they work better then a software firewall, but ZoneAlarm is the best option for a free program to protect your computers internet connection.

Spyware\AdAware are things that monitor your activity and send them out to ad companies, or use them to give you ad pop-ups and other things

Good Paid Antiviruses (On Par\Equal To With AVG Free)

McAfee
Kaspersky

i wouldnt trust zone alarm soo much.. it is a very annoying program, and will block everything. in fact you dont even need a firewall if you know what you are doing and visiting any of those bad websites. i have had bad experiances with zone alarm.. it literally at my brother's computer, corrupted .dll files and basically the computer had to be reformated

Additional Comment:
oh and i personaly use avast

I have never had problems with ZA... Avast is also a good anti-virus. If it's "annoying", just turn off messages of blocked things, then it will only ask you about programs. I have never heard it block anything legit, and if it does it is easy enough to make a firewall rule. I currently only have a router, but if you don't have a router or a software firewall then you are really leaving yourself open for any hacker to waltz right in on you.

I don't suggest a software firewall if you have a router (pointless, the hardware works better and if you surf smart you wont need one, the only thing it will do that the hardware will not is stop programs from doing things once they are on your computer), I do suggest at least a software firewall if you do not.

That's not a good thing! eek:

Go with AVG, it is the easiest to use and set up, and probably the best AV out there at the moment. If you feel that you only get crap unless it has a dollar sign attached to it, go with Kasperksy of McAfee... or AVG Pro. The only differences between full\pro are more languages supported, faster update servers, tech support... not really worth the $40 for 2-year license

yea ima try AVG because ZoneAlarm and McAfee cant go together now

best antivirus? - The Mob - 06-17-2006

ya about windows firewall... i got an aim trojan.. and it killed my firewall, so lol.
and could you explain more about the router? because i have one, but it doesnt have a firewall built in. it is just a regular wireless b router. wm_hunter, are you describing the routers that have the firewall built in or what?

Really? I'm going to Google that... I didn't hear anything about it blank:

Mods I think you can close. Enough info over the last dozen posts or so to give him a good idea.
