Start up laggg - The Mob - 06-16-2006 what were you doing to previous day? did you surf alot of bad websites? or install alot of programs? i would recommend scanning your computer for adaware, and do a virus scan while your at it. another good thing to do would be to edit your start up using msconfig. this is for advanced users only, as you may kill essential programs that start up. my suggestion would be to take a screen shot of the startup. go to start, click run, and then type in msconfig, then press enter. select the tab called startup, and then screen shot it and post it if yall wany us to take a look at it. you can also call a friend to help you. Start up laggg - Arc - 06-16-2006 spyware, i prefer spybot search and destroy its the best imo but any spyware program will work, also you might just have too many programs trying to open all at once on your startup, you should keep it down to the essentials and maybe one extra program, trying to have like 5 or 6 or more programs opening at once will lag it at startup. The way that computer hard-drives are made now, even defraging once a year is too much. The only time it helps is to do it before a reformat, makes everything go a lot faster and smoother. For ad-aware, I suggest Spybot + AdAware combo. For viruses, you could download AVG (which is the best on the market, there is a link in my sig), or just do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner. You may also, and I highly recommend this, run a program called CleanUp, scroll down the page and click the link to download CleanUp451.exe When I run that for many people the first time it clears over 1\2 gigs of junk. It will improve speeds, and get rid of temp files and things such as that you don't really need. I run one every week, you should run through it four-five times the first time that you do run it, and if you want you never have to touch it again. Start up laggg - New-b - 06-17-2006 thanks guys for all your help. i fixed the problem now by doing some adware scans and virus scan. |
