I need help with Half-Life - Joshy - 08-01-2006
Hello, eh.. i really want to use some ''cheats'' on half life, i searched on the web for some cheats and it tells me to do this but alas, i do not have any idea what it means. This is what it says to do in order to activate cheats.
Cheat mode:
Load game with the command line: hl.exe -dev -toconsole. Then, press ~ if the orange text on the screen does not disappear. During gameplay, press ~ to display the text prompt and type in sv_cheats 1. Press ~ and enter one of the following console commands to activate the corresponding cheat function.
Now if i could just figure out how to use the command line or even know what that is or where it is i could use some cheats someone please help me figure this darn thing out.

The command line is the console in games, usually brought down by the letter ~, which is right next to "1" on most keyboards.
In older Half-Life versions you had to enable it, by typing certain things into the command line, but if you've updated it to the most recent version, it should be there already. I think that in HL2, there is actually an option under options to enable the console, try looking in there.
Once you've got that, type in "sv_cheats 1" (without the apostraphes) to enable h4xing and then type in the corresponding cheat. Look for those on the net, should be readily available.
Anyway, Half-Life, like most shooters nowadays is so easy that you should easily be able to finish it on Hard, without using cheats. I recommend that you do that, it has a good storyline and you will be bored to death if you use codes.

If you are still looking for the option to enable the console in game, its under Settings>Keyboard>Advanced
There is a box that says, enable console in game.
You can enable the console as Frater said by press the ~(tilde) key.

also if youe cheating online you need to run the server to use sv_cheats
all you need to do is sv_cheats 1 then it shoudl say like sv_command line sent to council that menas it worked then enter codes as you please
