I had about 600 mf on my hammerdin before i stripped him, and he mfed alot of stuff, it just takes time to find stuff its extremely time consuming thats why i decided to buy my items instead of wasting hours mfing.

there are diminishing return drop off points at 300 and 500 mf
i did thirty runs of ancient tunnels with 305 mf and then thirty runs with 545 mf, i was getting drastically more magic items+ with 545 mf

do as much as your charcter can handle without dropping essential gear/ making him die like a jerk. If you get killed by fallen in hell, you got a problem with your gear. if you get killed by fallen in NM, your beyond help. laugh:
I for one recently had a very nice run on diablo. HoZ & naj's (which i needed cuz i have no nigma) in the same run eek: with only 4% MF laugh:
it all has to do with how much time your willing to sink into MFing. of course you may have gotten more uniques than me within that time. but we all know this game is basicly random about drops. (not really but let's not split hairs, i've gotten blue leather armors off of baal twice in a row, and that's with MF charcters. not my necro which found the naj/HoZ).
take time willing to sink, divide that by whatever your mf is, multiplied by even in hell blue daggers still drop (regardless of MF), plus aggravation, minus free time.
= i can't help you at all. 250 was enough to make me not spin kick my screen for me. now i just kind of sit back and enjoy the game. but crap runs WILL happen for awhile, they're unavoidable, just look at the %'s of the items your looking for.
the dice don't always land in the favor of the fool (gamblers, not calling you a fool). too bad this game is made like that. sink some more time.
eventually you'll be like me. enough good - great items to power 5 FULL accounts of charcters and not 1 ****ing high rune.
now i can actually see why people buy items

Id say 200-300 is enough. Its all in the time you spend so its a good idea to just buy your items like someone said above.

Personally, I am considering buying items to save me grief of trying just to get restarted on Diablo 2. My RL days are worth more than a couple bucks of crazy desperate MFing with junk gear.

Well I havn't played D2 in a couple of months so I'll just say my hdin had on the usual hdin equipment. While I was rushing my friend I got a perf maras off of hell meph. The next day I got a 5/5 fire facet off of hell baal. So I'm guessing it was about 80 mf or so.

I really think mfing is just all about luck and how much god/blizzard loves you. I'd rather just rush people for fg on jsp and spend that fg on items.

My hdin has a shako with ptopaz, I think that is my only source of mf (standard hdin gear) And I have found a unique jewel, eldritch orb, 3x amulet (29 maras, W00t, highlords, atmas ><) and some smaller items (low wolf howl, demon horn) I found all of this chaosing, I like having perf res, high fcr and 13k hammer dmg. With all of that I can do a lot of chaos runs fast, easily.

It has been my experience that past about 350% it all turns to blue crap or set items. Ever since I broke that point I have been less and less successful. The odd thing is that my friends lite sorcy has about 440% and constantly finds Facet jewels, HoZs and all kinds of good stuff. It's seems really hare to pin down what works the best. Oh well at least I never run short of Tal helms LOL.
