It seems I'm having trouble playing d2 at my mom's house because of her type of connection (Sprint-Earthlink-DSL).<--whateva!...
I allready reinstalled twice and updated it myself. When I try to connect to battle.net it seems to get stuck at the "checking versions" screen. This seems to be a problem with some dsl or router connections. If anyone has knowledge of this problem and how to fix it would be most apreciated.
I'm not a computer wiz, It might have somthing to do with ports but that's beyond me.Seems to be a somewhat common problem for people...

Can't seem to find any way of fixing it via google...I think i'm going to give up, lol.

My connection speed is fairly quick and I get the same problem now and then. I've always thought it was just lagging server side. If there is a trick to fixing reducing this issue It would be nice to know. oh and my speed is 1.5 meg up and 8 to 10 down.

Did you allow Diablo II in Firewall?

I turn off my firewall and all other programs when im "in game"

I did the same, I'm pretty sure it has to do with my service provider and/or blizz. It goes through the proper sreens untill checking version ...... and then it just sits there doing that forever N ever

I find I have to use Window's Repair thing on my network icon, and the problem leaves for a bit.
