Ok, before I start with spoilers I want those who haven't seen it to get the gist of how I feel about the film.
I'd like to start off by saying I had high expectations for this film, I've been drooling over it and eating up all the viral material they've released for around a year now. I actually went to the midnight showing despite need to leave for work at 5 a.m. I went home yesterday and slept till 8 p.m. and then got in line. In fact, if I didn't have to be at work, I would have stayed and watched the 3 a.m. showing that followed as well.
Absolutely amazing, this is by far the best comic book film ever made and Heath Ledger gives the best performance of his unfortunately short career. The story telling is spectacular, as you should expect from people like the Nolan brothers and David Goyer, and the acting was just top notch to the end. For those of you thinking, "Bleh, comic movies are just action movies with tights." Well, firstly, **** you. Secondly, this is not an action film. There is plenty of action and all of it suberbly done but this is an intense, emotional, and intelligent film.
Christian Bale - Seriously, **** all the other Batmans (Adam West excluded), Christian Bale IS Batman. He gives a great performance and has paved the way to becoming one of Hollywood's biggest stars.
Maggie Gyllenhaal - A huge improvement over Katie Holmes, Maggie gives a great performance as aslways. Not much to really say about her except that she really give the character a little extra oomph.
Michael Caine - He's Michael Caine, do I really need to say anything?
Gary Oldman - Read above comment and replace "Michael Caine" with "Gary ****ing Oldman."
Aaron Eckhart - Wow, I knew he was a good actor and great at playing lovable characters but wow. He far exceeded my expectations and was completely awesome as Harvey Dent. You absolutely love his character from begining to end and really feel sympathy for him after his transformation into Two-face.
And of course...
Heath Ledger - Dear ***...after watching this film and his performance I'm convinced that you could put this man in a movie with monkeys and space pirates who speak French and his performance would be Oscar worthy. I cannot stress enough how amazing he was in his roll as the Joker. His voice, his demeanor, his laugh, even the way he licked his lips constantly were all frightening, amusing, and yet you can't help but love him. He's an absolute monster of a human being and yet I felt like I would have been buying him a beer and telling people, "He's not that bad." Unforunately he wont get an Oscar nod because it's a comic book movie and if he does it'll be because he's dead. I hate the academy so much.
Score? 10/10
Not much could have made this film better, and changing anything may have risked ruining it.

For those of you who have seen the film I just want to point at that the pencil trick is the absolute greatest thing known to man. If you disagree, then you my friend have no class.
Also, is it me or did the movie need more Two-face? I loved the little bits we got but I wanted more. And did he die at the end? Or was he unconscious? I think he was dead but people did argue the point so I'm curious what you all thought.

I almost forget to bring up the trailers! Which were almost as bad ass as the film itself. Terminator 4 with Christian Bale as an adult John Conners during the machine war? **** YES.
Watchmen? Oh *** Dr. Manhattan looked so rediculously bad ass.

I literally just got home, went to the movie at 9:51(Starting time) and got home a little before 1am. Anyways I do agree it was amazing, that pencil trick was brilliant, and everyone in the movie did a great job acting. I also agree with you about Two-Face I was hoping for more of him. The only thing I'm mad about or well disappointed about is the next movie I believe will come out, wont have heath which I see will bring things down a little bit. But other then that it was a amazing!
Oh and next to the pencil trick was when Joker was locked up and being questioned!

I think he was just unconcious because of them showing his coin landing face up. Otherwise what was the point of that? That was my take on it anyway.
I absolutely love this movie, it is so much more than just a comic book movie. It is definitely Nolan's masterpiece. I also agree with you spoon that the acting is amazing although i am slightly dissapointed with maggie gyllenhaal. She is a lot better than katie holmes though.

I could not agree more. I was very skeptical going in to the movie, thinking... "All the hype about his performance will just be due to his death." But hell, was I wrong...
I have never been a fan of him, nor appreciated his talent. However, this movie turned it around for me. I would have to say, that his acting in The Dark Knight is the best I have ever seen, in ANY movie I have ever watched. Hands down, he was incredible. I cannot think of any other actor that could have pulled it off better than he did. He fascinated the whole audience with his quirks and sly sense of humour, and yes, you can't help but feel some sort of... liking for him.
It's only now that I find it a true shame he could not continue and take the joker further. No one will ever be able to play him as well as Heath could. They can try, but I imagine the thoughts on everyone's mind, "Heath could have done it so much better..."

Highest gross based on midnight shows (Previous holder Star Wars: Episode III)
Highest gross based on opening day (Previous holder Spider-Man 3)
Highest gross based on 3-day opening weekend (Previous holder Spider-Man 3)
Will they take the highest over all grossing film record from Titanic? Probably not, but the expected outcome is $200+ million at the end of this week (Batman Begins grossed about $205 over all) so it has a good chance.
So, who's going to go see it again? I know I am.

Spider-Man 3 blew but Spider-Man 2 was spectacular and people were expecting the same from the sequel so it took the records.

The movie was good but it seemed to drag on forever. The major action with a minor in morals with some love triangle thrown in did not go over well.
I know they wanted to get this inner chaos of Batman v. Bruce Wayne but I think they tried way to hard.
Actor/Actress wise - Christian Bale delivered as always. Heath Ledger most certainly played the best role of his short life. Aaron Eckhart did a good job as Harvey Dent but the switch from Dent to Two-Face was to quick and easy add the over the top special effects for the burned portion of his face and it all seemed thrown in at the last minuet.
2.8/5.0 - Would I watch it again? Probably. Will I buy the DVD? No. Am I praying and hoping they get Depp for The Riddler? You bet your sweet rock hard ass I am.

Depp would be horrid as The Riddler...also, David Goyer said they're trying to do someone we haven't seen yet.

I think Depp would be a good fit for The Riddler if they plan to continue the darker Batman theme. If they try and make The Riddler/Batman movie more light hearted, like the last one with Jim Carey as the Riddler, then someone else would be fitting. if they pick someone "new" to the big screen I'll want a trailer showcasing the actors ability to portray The Riddler.
I'm also keen to know what other villain they will be pitting Batman against alongside The Riddler, if any. If they bring Two-Face back, which they should since his role was short lived, I'm not seeing how they will explain his rise from the dead in a manner movie goers and Batman lovers will like. Re-imagining The Penguin, Poison Ivy and/or Baine, and maybe Catwomen, I'd bust one through my pants if they put Haley Barry in as Catwoman because DAMN! was that women ever hotter than hell in Catwomen, would be welcome as well. I also think using the Royal Flush Club would pretty cool. ( Not a Batman comic reader so I have no idea if that was a creation for the TV series or a villan taken from the comics.)
P.S. I also expected a lot more discussion regarding this movie than one page. Kind of a shame really since the new Batman series is probably one of the best comic movie sieres running.
