Whats the difference between - wazzacky - 03-01-2009
Army, marines, seals etc etc.
I know there are more.
the average person (atleast in Canada i'd think) would think that they are all the same. when you hear news, whether it be CNN or BBC, you hear about the US army. Just so im educated a bit... Whats the fundamental difference?
Siris, being a direct source, could help me out on this.

The difference is the branch of service.Each has its own goal and area of responsibility.I am not sure how much information you want as opposed to what knowledge you lack o.0
Each branch has a specific mission and then broader ones.Seals,Rangers,Special Forces are all elite specialized,highly trained units and not a branch of service.
The difference in the branches I.E. Airforce,Marines,Army,Navy is the task it was created to carry out. If you want specific details you need to ask better questions.

i would think that the Marines are specialized army guys like in assasination or air raids to just plain pissing of an enemy. seals..well i think they deal with coastal defence or offence

For one, SEALs stands for Sea, Air, Land and are part of the Navy.

lol First off, you can't group the Army, The MC, and SEALs together. The Army and the MC are military branches. The SEALs are the Navy's special forces. The MC has scout snipers as well as Recon. The Army has Rangers and green beret.
You hear about the Army on the new a lot more gecause they are immensely bigger. The Marine's job is basically to siege a place. Once it's under our control the Army comes in and holds while we move out. Also if the Army loses control we are sent in. We are also know for landing by land, sea, and air hence why the eagle, globe, and anchor is our symbol. We also have teams that can respond to a crisis anywhere in the world within 24hrs. We are trained longer and harder than anyone else which is why we prevail when others fail. We are the poorest which is why we have the shittest gear. We also don't get the new gear use see on the news till its old for the other branches. There was talk that if clinton became president that she was going to do away with the MC. Honestly I believe America needs us.
P.S. I wasn't shit talking any other branch. They all provide a valuable service.

I presume NOTHING sir...I am married to an Airborne Ranger with over 20 years of service that ALSO went to Army Flight School and has been a pilot for over 20 years.
I spent a few years IN THE ARMY and 5 years in R.O.T.C.
For the uneducated Reserved Officers Training Course.While in the Army I was trained in Military Intelligence,went to Basic Training in Ft.Dix New Jersey and had A.I.T.(Advanced Individual Training) In Ft. Devons Mass.

alrite that explains alot. I was at one point thinking of joining the canadian airforce. Its pretty cool because i'd probably get the job (if i was allowed to fly) of checking the air space around the west coast. We see jets all the time.
