Ok man first don't just go for her cause she's hot. That's just stupid I know lots of girls who are hot bur are stupid and mean sprited. If she's not like that then get to know her better and be flirtatious if she shows interest then you go for it. Don't just walk up and ask her out cause for me that fails a lot.

Oh yeah don't let on that you like her. Be flirtatious and stuff but don't let her know that you like her just like every now and then poke fun at her, nothing harsh just jokingly, and don't make it seem like a big deal when you hang out with her. Don't act like you don't care though be there for her when she's upset so you're not just some jackass.

No don't try to be different just be yourself, if she doesn't like who you are then she's not really the kind of girl you wanna be with. What you need to show her is that you can make her feel good and don't try to impress her all the time. But yeah they love the attention.

Most of it is confidence, chicks dig confidence, no one likes a whiny little *****. You have one advantage in the fact that you already know her.
Theres also a certain thing about timing if you miss it as spoonman says, you're delegated to "friend", in other words if you ask her out shed give you the "awww thats so sweet but i would never jepordize our friendship" line. If you catch it, you're naked in bed playing "I'm better than your ex".
Things arent necesarily so clear cut and dry, every situation is different, but as a guy you have to learn from the mistakes you make and make your own decisions.
