Regarding forum moderator "etanol," and a suggestion to stop spam posts. - Spam_Man666 - 08-07-2004

I've read the whole "Seifers dupe never released" thread, and noticed that etanol banned DiMMu_BoRGiiR for spam, then proceeded to ban Depravation521 after accusing him/her and DiMMu_BoRGiiR of being the same person. What proof of that is there? Don't you think it's just a little bit unfair to Depravation521? Maybe (s)he was just a friend, or a keen observer. It's also unfair that others weren't banned for spam. Several people posted as such when they responded to DiMMu_BoRGiiR's posts. It seems to me however that etanol had abused his/her power and had been antagonizing DiMMu_BoRGiiR by following an insult with a threat of banning. This invoked DiMMu_BoRGiiR to post off-topic once more, which resulted in a banning of his/her account.

Regardless of it's content, a person should recieve a warning for spam via PM, not by posting on the thread in which the instance of spam occured, thereby reducing the number of spam posts. Also, when people responded to DiMMu_BoRGiiR's comments, it only invoked more spam. So it would seem practical to simply delete the spam post and all related posts. I do realize that this would be difficult, considering the size of these forums, and that not all spam posts could be deleted in a timely manner. However, if a moderator has time to antagonize and threaten members of these forums in a thread, he/she could certainly delete the spammer's post.

Thank you for your time.

Its not because they spammed, if you read the thread, they were posting off topic sh!t, that got them banned, and sticking up for Dimmu is also "OFF-Topic" so thats why he got banned also

Etanol told them many times to stay on topic, but dimmu went right ahead *****ing about the stupid bands.

Same IP, and that's not even all.

Registered just after being banned and just had to say something "smart", and check his/her profile. Notice anything? Look at the AIM name.

Is an off-topic post not considered spam? I don't see why it shouldn't be. Also, on etanol's last post, he said "Nice of you to make another account just to spam," therefore accusing Depravation521 and DiMMu_BoRGiiR of being the same person, and also making the judgement that off-topic posts are spam. Please don't confuse my intentions, as I agree that posts such as DiMMu_BoRGiiR made were off-topic, and very unnecessary, and he/she deserved at least a suspension of priviliges. By mentioning etanol's actions I'm only hoping that something can be done about moderators that abuse their power. This is only one occurence, and I am in no way suggesting it happens all the time. I'm only trying to help limit the off-topic posts such as DiMMu_BoRGiiR had made. I am a member of several other forums that have used the method I suggested above as a way to reduce off-topic//spam posts, and it works rather well. Once again, I thank you all for your time and hope you seriously consider the suggestions I have made.

Ok then etanol, I apologize for accusing you of abusing power. I hadn't bothered to check profiles and such, good to know you are on top of things.

I didn't say that posting offtopic isn't spamming.

He/she just had to make a new account to continue, didn't even bother to make a new thread about it. That would have been fine with me, I would have kept it open. But making a new account to avoid the ban isn't nice, I would have banned the other account anyway. It's only for 48hrs.

Just to clear something up, etanol, I never said that you had said off-topic posts aren't spam. That is the impression Uber-Soldat gave me in his post. I apologize if I have misinterpreted anything said to this point. However, I would still like to see my above suggestion regarding the reduction of spam seriously considered, and will be very pleased to hear if it is accepted. As I said before, other forums I am currently involved with have adopted that procedure, and it works very well. Thank you.

I don't really make the rules, so lets just wait and see what others think.
