The world relies on teachers in order to be educated and get a job. My mom is a teacher, and she works all day and we she gets home, she still has work. A job like that deserves more then what teachers are getting paid.

I'm pretty sure the consensus here is that teachers are underpaid for the work they do, essentially holding down 3 jobs in the form of one... Teaching, Part-time parenting, and Disciplinarian.

The problem isn't that teachers need a new way to get paid, or that they are under-paid because of an unwillingness of the schools to pay them more... Its all of the people around you, your family, neighbors, grandparents, and friends.

Every year the school proposes a budget to get the money that it will need and aside from the arbitrary pittance the state already gives them, the additional amount necessary goes to a comittee or town board meeting and is voted on to be made up in the form of taxes.

Who are the majority of people who vote? Without any information of my own, I'd have to say seniors... the grandparents of the nation, who assume since their children's children don't go to school in that area, why should they pay? Or even worse, if they have no children, why pay anything at all?? There are republicans in my area who put up signs pandering to the seniors saying no school taxes at all, vote for me etc....

So, in essence, the people whos generation was fighting in world war two for the honor of our country, now want to see it ground into the ashes just to save a buck and be able to go to florida this year.

Unfortunately, public schools have become a disaster, but how can it be fixed?? Home schooling only is beneficial for children who's parents are at least moderately intelligent, and privatized schooling is just way out of budget for most families. Until the American public decides that education is the important thing it really is, teachers are doomed to make 35k a year, and football players will make 35 million

I'm not reading that because. This thread ended IN MAY. It is now almost september. Please look at dates before posting.

Edit: Also, if you look at your subscribed threads (this will be here, you clicked on it) a closed thread has a little envelope with a lock on it... pay attention yourself, smart guy.

(I'll feel silly if a thread you posted in NEVER tells you it's closed, but I can't concieve such a poor system being implemented)

Actually, I merely looked at the previous posts, and noticed they were spaced apart by a month, at the least, leading me to believe there wasn't any particular rush to write something in this thread. I don't recall specifically asking you to read anything at all, I merely posted an opinion for anybody who happened to wander through here, much like it seems you did. Awesome work on posting for no reason, though!

First off, threads die. They just do. When a thread is closed, the reply button doesn't even appear, therefore making it impossible to post in a closed thread. And it's also more than one month. It's 3. Pay attention, I said ended. Not closed.

True, if you read carefully, I did happen to say "at least" a month apart. It's boggling my mind that this is bothering you so much. Why are you even reading an "ended thread", in your words? Try daylight, it's super.

Tribal, dont bring back old threads, thats what death is trying to say.

Threads more than one month old without a reply 'die'. let them slowly pass away dont keep them alive.

I can't come up with a logical thing to say after I noticed you were staff. Is there a reason you let ended threads sit? I don't waste posts, but i'm still new here, so fill me in. Do you frown apon expressing an opinion in a thread that's over a month from a post, but don't close or delete them for... what? four? six months?

I'm not trying to sound sarcastic, I just have * no * ability to come up with an explanation for this. Tell me what it is, and i'm set to go from here on out.

i know how much a good teacher works, and they dont get paid nearly enough for what they do. they work a lot more than some business executives n shit, and yet they dont get paid shit, its the dumbest thing in the world... not to mention they have to deal with kids who are assholes the entire day.

The politically correct thing is to say "oh, the world would fall apart without teachers, they need more money". But face it, most home school students do better than those taught by "teachers". If an untrained parent can do as good or better, I think we need to rethink how much teachers should be paid.
for one thing, education systems have developed a little since abe lincon was president... and there are 2 major reason kids who are homeschooled do better, 1) there parents are way more involved in there work, so they actually get homework done. 2) students who are at school and who are smart, are destracted by the rest of the students who are there for other reasons than to learn. teachers are not over payed, they are vastly under payed.

ok i dont think they're paid to much. SOME OF THEM GO TO COLLEGE FOR TEN YEARS!!! You can get a ten year degree for some many other things and make more money. And teachers have to do stuff after school ends. Like grading 100's of papers must be a ***** to look forward to when you go home. I think theres more to blame than just teachers for low test scores. It has to do with the kids being lazy dumbasses and the very higher up guys. And the no child left behind act doesnt help much either.
