Thread: The Anti-Ad

  1. #1

    Default The Anti-Ad

Well, either I haven't been paying enough attention or lately the amount of rock-bottom post amount members have been making utterly moronic threads about CD keys, free items, or are spewing out more ads than a free subscription to Kazaa, so I've been thinking if there is a way to possibly give 'Create Thread' privileges to members with a certain amount of unwarned (thrown in there to prevent spamming for it) posts. Something low, but not easily aquired, and I was thinking 20 posts.

This would assure that new members would actually get involved in the forums and it would hopefully cut down on the 'Join my site plzzz' threads that are a burden to our already hard-working mods.

Haha cruel but Good idea. My first post on d2sector like earlier this week was one of those moronic, wrong thread posts, asking prices on items. Im new myself and im annoyed by it. I would to see seem less like a d2sector noobie and have foog read his pm's and PLZ make me a sig LOL. Also you could have a point penalty for a bad post or for spamming

There's already a penalty for 'bad posts' or spamming, it's the warning system, but the only thing is that when you're banned here, it doesn't really matter because you've already gotten your annoying message through and you can move on to plague another forum.

Yes, that would be a good idea. They should make it so people with a +10 warning level cannot make threads.

Yea thats true. Than again before I joined d2sector I was always a guest and I noticed you guys can be pretty intimadating to a new memeber. Also when I finally welled up the courage to join and post something I really had no idea what I was doing. I tried my best to be polite but I guess I broke a rule or too LOL. Closed within 4 posts. Another idea could be that new memebers have a 5 day testing period. Were they aren't allowed more than 3 mistakes or something like that. Also you could have them be forced to read a forum explaining all the rules or something than take a test on it to get their d2sector account.

What if you need help and you have under 20 posts? Wouldn't that encourage people to go off topic and spam in other threads?

Ya, but at least it wouldnt be a new thread, its easier to ignore a post than thread.

But i agree that the spamming of 1 posts has to end

Most of the one-post wonder threads are in the Bots and Hacks section about d2jsp or YAMB where there is already a help thread for that. Maybe if we make a '20-post-and-under' help thread in the help section and Graphics and Art section so those that are genuinely into joining this community or are just looking for help won't be screwed.

Also, if you go off topic, you CAN be warned, and the counter wouldn't let warned posts go towards thread-making.

Why punish every single new member here by doing this? I've seen 2 ad people, and a hell of a lot more new and good members. Think about it, your new, need help but you can't make a thread. That sucks for new members. It would turn me off to the entire fourm if I was new. What if I wanted to make a thread about your favorite drink? Or a thread about your city and how its like. Why punish every single new member because people advertise sometimes. Just ban them when they advertise. Done.

[EDIT] If you'd like my proof on there being very good new members PoisonWolf. Check him out. Having a member like that is worth one or two advertisers. I have more new members that are worth one or two more advertisers.

The only problem about banning them after they post is that they got the message out already. So it doesn't really help if you just ban them.

Well Foog downloaded the trade hack and he was lucky his Norton stopped the Subseven in it's tracks. Also, they can use the search option if they don't want to post in the 20-under section, chances are, the question they want to ask has already been answered. Or, if they wanted to, they could use their brain. Take the Hacks and Dupe section for example... It would purge that section from the repeated/utterly moronic questions by probably 99%.

You say that we're punishing the majority because a minority of members are wasting our mod's time, but it's really the other way around. A huge percentage of the people that post new threads about help that is likely already being answered, I would estimate 80% of the newbs here will never read stickies and will never post again after they post a repeated question.

I'm not trying to punish anyone, I just want to keep the forum clean and make people actually work to be a part of D2sector.

Nice way to dodge one of my points. What about new people who help? Look at PoisonWolf. Also, if they can't create a thread, they will just post an off topic post in an existing thread. Just watch.

Ok, way to get hostile when I'm trying to help the forum. The few that are actually good can become a part of the forum first by making their 20 posts elsewhere. And you obviously are missing the point I'm making that off-topic posts will be warned and warned posts won't go towards the number of posts, if that is at all possible. I would really like an Admin's opinion of this..

In my opinion... the graphics section's sig request thread is usually full of 3 post nubs who want a sig that will be used twice. I was thinking of making a rule for 50 posts minimum for me to even look at it. Just saying what I want done...

What about a ten post minimum in the sections that get the most stupid threads. Like Graphics and Art, the hacks sections. Not a global requirement.
