    Thumbs up Heavy Metal Discussion

I hope this isn't already a thread somewhere, tell me if it is.... Anyways, I love heavy metal and talking about it so lets discuss it.
    Let me start us off...

I like listening to old school metal like Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest etc ya know...
Also I'm a vocalist so I like all of Glenn Danzig's bands :) (Glenn Danzig and Bruce ****inson are my heroes!)
I don't like alot of new metal, but I do like Chimaira and Lamb of God...
Favorite Guitarist=Dime, RIP, and let Nathan Gale burn in hell like he deserves
Favorite Vocalist= Tie between Glenn Danzig and Bruce ****inson
Favorite Bassist=Les Claypool (I'm not a huge fan of Primus but whenever I listen to them Les fills my ears with joy)
Favorite Drummer=John Bonham (How can you argue with this)
Favorite Solo=Dimes solo in "Domination", that is so sick :
Oh and old school hardcore is cool to like D.R.I. and S.O.D. also old thrash like Exodus is great to.
If you can't see the connection between metal and rap you are blind, so I'm also listing my favorite rapper, Ice T

I guess I'm "Blind" then, because i see no connection between Rap and Metal. Personally I listen mainly to Black and Death (but not really grindcore, I like Gothenburg though). I also like Thrash, Heavy, Power, Folk etc, really depends on the band... My favourite band... Cannot say really, depends on the mood. Lately I have started to listen to Behemoth, Pantera and Chuck Schuldiner.

    Following your trend...

Favorite metal vox- Robert Plant (hey, you said Bonham was your fav drummer..)
Guitarist- Oldschool wise, probably James Hetfield. I LOVE Jon and Matt from Shadows Fall, too.
    Bassist- Steve Harris
Drummer- Joey Jordinson and/or Jason Bittner (Slipknot and Shadows Fall, respectively)

I appreciate all metal and all music, but in order for me to listen to any genre related to Black or Daeth metal, EVERYTHING has to be there. The vocals totally turn me off to this genre of metal, so guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards have to be spot on in order for me to dig it. Children of Bodom would be an excellent example of this; prime musicians and shite lyrics/vox [which can be argued, but Alexi admits vocals and songwriting are NOT priority in CoB]

I am sort of burned out on metal right now, though. Metal is like anything else in life.. too much in an extended period of time tires it out. I'm in a more country/folk/acoustic stage right now, but metal is still good regardless

Country, Rap, and Metal all originated from the blues... Although country is not my thing lol and not alot of rap is cool either I respect it ya know... Blues is the best lol better than metal

The most underrated of all time is either BB King or Trey Azagthoth (Morbid Angel)

Speaking of guitar solos, my fav solo would have to be from Mr. Crowley by Ozzy Osbourne. It is sick! Either that or Propaganda by Seputura.

Ack, honestly, I'm kind of tired of the whole Slipknot thing lol... IDK why everyone thinks they're so great, I saw them with Lamb of God and Shadows Fall and Corey lost his voice halfway through the set. Thats just my opinion though, I like bands with more guitar than them, they're all drums and honestly I think there are way better drummers than Joey. Thats just my opinion though :)

i don't know how you judge drummers or s, but mick, jim, and joey totally rape 99% of other metal s out there

however, jon matt and jason are just as good, if not better
slipknot's a strong band musically speaking, not the most entertaining to listen too(in my opinion) but definitely musically inclined...

I said Pantera because out of all of those bands I like Pantera the best, I just started listenening to them, and the Domination solo is one of hte greatest solo's I've heard. I don't listen to much maiden anymore either. And also because I didn't want to say other.

Black sabbath because they were first, and you can't beat the one who did it first.

Yes, You can. And they weren't the "first".

I have to agree, Trey Azagthoth is an awesome , all songs on "Gateways To Annihilation" are entirely held up by him, if he wasn't there, nothing would be... Favourite solo? Cannot say, let me listen to some of my favourites again so that I could decide... I have 6553 mp3's... 95% metal.

Heavy metal wasn't something that was "invented". All music genres develop progressively, all having their influences. Pink Floyd was before, yet they didn't "invent" heavy metal. Be careful with Your terminology and know Your topic.

Please explain your thinking in saying Black Sabbath were not the forefathers, originators, and 'creators' of heavy metal. Would you like to elaborate? Black Sabbath took the rythm styles of the Stones and the Beatles and combined it with the lead styles of the blues and created a style known as "Heavy Metal."

Tony Iommi was the first to really rely on the lower frets and open E strings to riff, and was probably the first to use overly saturated guitar tones.

Who came before them with the styles of heavy metal? I can't think of any. Who came after them in the style of heavy metal?

Really want me to list it? Please, explain how they aren't the forefathers of metal.

Listen to Black Sabbath's first albums. It's Your typical British Rock of the time. There's no way that You can call that heavy metal. Their metal influences came later on. Yes, Black Sabbath has had a huge effect on defining on what Heavy Metal is today, but there's no way that they can be credited as "the sole starters of it".

"Who came before them with the styles of heavy metal? I can't think of any."
Deep Purple and Pink Floyd thinking off the top of my head.
