It's so people that get bored playing the game will keep playing by hitting it, therefore telling their friends about the oh so fun 'chat gem' and how many times they've clicked it...

A blizz rep on the forum said something about the chat gem and logs....idk wha it means exactly but he said "I've said to much.." He could of been messsin around but ya never kno

Perhaps those logs are logs @ Blizzard. There is a really fat guy with all the cheesy puffs he wants who sits in his chair all day and stares at a counter on his computer. This counter is logging all of the times people click on the chat gem, and he just sits there and laughs, followed by a handful of snacks, followed by a swig of Pepsi, followed by more laughing.

I do believe there was an original purpose for the chat gem as many others have said, but at the current time all its there for is simple-minded entertainment.

man, he must have gotten a good laugh for that 30 minutes i was bored, i have this neat power were i can tense my hand up and make it click the mouse really fast... i'd say about 10 clicks a second. so lets see there's 60 seconds in a minute, so 60 times 30 is 1800 seconds, and at 10 clicks per second that makes around 18000 clicks..... thats a goooood laugh right there.

Maybe if we get every single person on bnet to click the chat gem as fast as possible for a 5 minute time period, all synchronized, then maybe we could flood Bnets servers and caust Bnet to crash and burn.

What is the function of the Gem in the Diablo II Battle.net Chat room?
When it has been clicked once, it activates -- causing a blue glow to appear through the Gem. When it is clicked again, it deactivates and the glow disappears. Rarely a perfect gem activation will occur instead of the usual Gem activation
