I don't like rap myself, but I do find it kind of funny that the best rapper IMO is a white guy... :P

I will not vote, I refuse to vote on such a redicilous topic. If a person can say that 1 genre is better than the others than that person is either uneducated..or very 1 dimensional

The kind of person who can catagorize an entire term (rap/metal) in one sentance isn't the kind of person that should be respected, and should listen with their brain, not with their bias. =p

So lets take this piece by piece
Rap = talking fast and record it on to your pc

So he/she (probably a she, I have found in genral that girls are no as biased on such unimportant topics) is saying that ALL rap is some guy talking fast into a mic.
What about the beats? the thick bass and drumms? the rhyming?

Metal = Feeling, skill, and passion
He is saying that ALL metal is feeling, skill, and passion, I disagree. There are tons of metal bands in on the scene for a quick buck, look at slipknot, I used to like them sure, but didn't every 12 year old? Look at Metallica, sueing the music industry for (SHOCK) people listning to their music for free, if they really had passion wouldn;t they want other people to experiance it without having to shell out money for a god damn box set?

there is 1 good rap song from the 80s
Bullshit, there is 1 good rap song THAT YOU HAVE HEARD from the 80s
Think of all the bands on the charts
Then think of your local underground scene
Then multiply that by 5893209 and you get the avarage ammount of groups across the world. There is tons of music out there to experiance

And for those who are wondering, nothing that I have heard from either genra has impressed me recently, I used to be a big radio kid, the last time i touched a radio was probably a year and a half ago. I like bands like
    Weather report, nice jazz experimental
Pink FLoyd, spacy, dreamy, and psychadelic as hell
Primus, I suppose they could be metal, like funk metal if anything
and Frank Zappa, the pinical of weird
Basically I like anything weird and different. the 'set in stone genres' are boring me at the ripe age of 14. Mainstream anything just doesn't do it anymore

and before you flame me, this post goes for everyone with a closed mind.

EDIT: I likle Mindless Self Indulgence, they are a bit of both with some weird twists

the point of that rant was not to say what kind of music i like, but to express that metal and rap are not the only genres, and even so are huge genres (someone tell me if I am spelling genre wrong)

I can name tons of new bands I like, but what would it proove? that I have a wide taste? nothing more...

Oh, and what does and other hard bands that listened to long enough hurt... that mean? Does it mean when you listen to a band it hurts? is that good or bad? I am not trying to flame you or anything, I just want to know if you are trying to flame my taste.

Don't ever, ever, ever call System of a Down, Korn, or "other hard bands" metal. Ever.

The vote system does not say: "Which one is better", it just asks people to express their opinions of preference. I say that the metal genre is better than rap and I don't consider myself a one-dimensional person. You wouldn't expect me to say: "Oh yeah, rap is SOOOO good but i can't ****ing stand it!!" Doesn't make a lot of sense now, does it? What is good and what is not good is based on people's own preferances, not on others'.

Maybe they just found it unfair that people were ripping them off on their months of hard work? Are you trying to say that people who do music passionately don't ask money for it? That's the dumbest thing I've heard for a long time. How the hell are they meant to earn a living? Why don't you work for free? Making music is not a piece of cake, months and months of rehearsals go into making a decent album and then you say that they are there just to make a quick buck, even though they've been in the scene for over 20 years now? Don't you realize also how much money goes into renting the studio, to the manager, new instruments, recording? How the hell are they supposed to cover those expenses? I suggest that you shut your ass and give your mouth a chance (also try to add the brain in sometime).

Yeah, there are millions of bands out there that I could experience. Unfortunately, not all of us have as much time as you to listen to all of that out there, so people like me just stick to the genres that they know they won't be ted by.

I certainly don't think that you have an open mind. There is a small point in what you are trying to say, but you need to develop your ideas much, much further before they are ripe for forum discussion.

I have been in this forum WAAAAY longer than you buddy, and 1 thing that I have found about it is that often the first post does not mandate every post after that. Look at almost every thread in the rpg room for evidence
My point = The first person had an open mind, but unfortunately it seems like not many other people do. ‘rap sucks’ ‘metal is all screaming and killing stuff’ ß-that is the definition of a closed mind
It may ask people to express their opinions, but they express their bias mostly. And no, you might not be a 1 dimensional person, but if you had come out and said ‘rap blows arg I am going to suck some ****’ or something than yes, you would have been 1 dimensional IMHO. J

I didn’t say that every girl isn’t biased on music, and every guy is the most biased POS to ever walk to face of the earth. I said that in my experience that IN GENERAL girls are less biased about music. This may have no backbone whatsoever (it doesn’t) but it shows a point

I am trying to say that people who do music passionately don’t ask for money, I am sure some do, but look at Hendrix, He played at Woodstock, that is days of free music for thousands of people. Look at the Grateful Dead, encouraging that someone ‘pops a door’ at a concert to let a few more people in to hear the music (for free) look at Franz Ferdinand, saying that when someone downloads music it is better for the band because the people know the songs at concerts. I have a Grateful Dead commercial for an album (I think it was workingmans dead) and in the commercial it says ‘Go ahead, steal one’ (referring to the album) The bottom line is that there are REAL bands out there who have REAL passion for their music, music generated as a way to spread the news, and that is how it should stay.
What does that even have to do with my major point anyways? I said that there were bands who don’t have passion and are greedy, you disagreed, that seems a bit impossible to me.[/quote]

I don’t have enough time to listen to every band, what he said was that there was “1” good rap song from the 80s. so what does that have to do with you having as much free time as you would like? Besides nothing? Sticking to a genre is fine, but being completely ignorant about something, but having opinions about it anyways is NOT okay. Did I answer your question?

Look kid, you still don't get it, do you? The poll was there asking about people's preferances. The posts that followed were irrelavant, affecting the poll in no way whatsoever. Therefore you misinterpreted it. How long you have been on this forum has nothing to do with this arguement whatsoever. I counted the number of words in the 1st post and achieved a sum of 18. For me, that certainly isn't enough to judge whether someone has an open mind or not. Furthermore, I don't think that such judgements can be made based on such an irrelevant topic.

Rephrase that please, I don't understand. (English isn't my first language). Perhaps because it doesn't make any sense whatsoever?

You're just incredible. You use an arguement which you admit to being groundless. How can it show a point if it "has no backbone whatsoever"? You cannot generalize sexes. End of story.

You seem to mix making music up with something off this plant. Essentially, making music is a job, which people expect to get paid for. There are very few lucky people in the world whose hobbies happen to earn them money, and I consider musicians into that group. Essentially, all they are doing is earning a living. You wouldn't expect someone to throw a concert to thousands of people and then go and beg for pennies on the street would you? Your arguement says that people who don't ask for money for their music are REAL, and the people that do ask for money, what are they then? UNREAL? Give me a break. Maybe you should try to earn some money for yourself sometime.

Believeing that there's 1 good rap song is all-right, because, it means that the person has not heard any more rap songs that they like. It's their own preferance.

    1) If you don't care then why do you post?
    2) Doesn't make any sense whatsoever. You don't need to be on a forum to develop ideas, you can just use your own brain, you know. Writing a book? Was that meant to be a flame? Or just mockery? Shut up.

Here's what's going on here, some people state a preference...others scream about how their preference is superior (Epeen +10) then people argue over what this argument is about and pick apart eachother's posts (Which is my job damnit) (Epeen +5). And finally, we all agree to disagree...Oh wait that's what we should do, my bad. No, instead we'll continue on with, "Oh em gee dewd! J00 are so ghey cuz you like (c)rap!" And I shall once again feel ashamed to be apart of the human race.

pfft, they are pop, just like every band mentioned by most of us, anything you hear on the radio is pop, or the pop version of a band

Singles are made to make money, to be known, and if a band wants to be known than they pick the song on the album (this doesn't happen often anymore but they will make singles and no album for them) that sounds the most like whatever people want to hear, and turn that into their single, they send it into the radio wilderness, and it works, look at Greenday. They wern't bad 'punk' music (call them what you want) but then they made a whole album of singles and now they are more popular than SNoop in the popular music world.

I'll disagree with that radio statement, Briscoe. I hear shit tons of good music (on good days) all the time by ****ing Sabbath, Floyd, ****ing shit you listen to all the time. =D

I don't know about you guys but I think rap brings the bad side on a lot of guys. Gangster chicks are ugh. During my absence I've thrown around 12 keg parties and it was all rock kids there. Usually I'd have 2 kegs with around 80 people total. $5 a cup = $400 a week. The rock kids all talk to everyone and talk about different bands and I never saw a fight break out between them. But when a group of tough guy gangsters came they'd pick fights with every one. Every time they came, the tap was stolen, brought their own cups and said they paid, wanted to fight me when I said to pay up. In my opinion, gangster rap kids a.) act black b.) talk about fighting constantly c.) are drug dealers d.) want to fight you when you say pay up? I never had a problem with anyone at my parties but them. Not only were they uninvited but they also stole everytime they were there. Or fought one of my friends. Gangsters suck.
