Default Guide To Taking Screenshots

    Well, this question has popped up a lot in threads. And everytime, there's an answer. So I am making this to finally end these questions. Who knows, maybe this can make some threads that require screenshots(and revive some like pics of godly gear)more active.

    I was going to make this thread a while ago but i was 1/2 way through when I acidently hit backspace and went back on my browser and I lost all my work. Oh well, atleast I'm getting to it now...

    Since it's a guide for taking screenshots I figure I'd put a bunch in here too.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~What is a Screenshot?~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    *****Uses of a Screenshot
    Screenshots can be very handy. They show everything on your screen. It's good when you can't explain yourself easily with something. This can help when looking for tech support on an issue(another reason its in this section). Also for showing off your godly d2 items or your desktop etc.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~How do I take a Screenshot?~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    *****Taking a Screenshot

    To take a screenshot you have to press the print screen button. It looks like this:
    ______
Print
Scrn
SysRq

    If you hit printscreen then you get the entire screen. If you only want your current window then if you hit ALT+Printscreen then you only get your current window(doesn't matter when your in D2).
    The printscreen button is located here to make it easier:

    *****Retrieving a Screenshot

    To retrieve a screenshot open paint. Or if you have photoshop then you can open it there but I find paint easier(quicker to open and all you are doing is saving it unless you are editing it). Anyways, after you hit the print screen button, and paint/photoshop is open, hit the crtl+v buttons. Now your screenshot should be open in whatever program you have open.

    *Note, below goes for most games besides Diablo II also*

    When retrieving a screenshot from Diablo II the file is sent to your Diablo II directory. If you try to hit crtl+v in paint it won't come out right. Go to run and type in "C:/Program Files/Diablo II". The only picture files in there will be your screenshots. If its in your directory then skip the next 2 steps.

    *Note, when uploading the image it will be uploaded from the directory*

    *****Editing a Screenshot

    To edit a screenshot, open it in paint/photoshop etc. Then edit it like a normal picture before you save it. This can help to highlight things in the screenshot you want people to notice. Sort of obvisious but hey whatever.

    The screenshot may be too big for uploading to imageshack. The image has to be <1.5megabytes. You can use imageshacks resizer or use photoshop. If you have Windows XP you can download their image rezier here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx

    *****Saving a Screenshot

    When saving a screenshot make sure you save it in a place that's easy to get to so when you upload it, you won't forget where it is. Go to file, save as then ussually I save it in a file I created in my pictures. Be sure to save your changes if you edit it.

    Also, when you save it be sure to save it with a file compatable with uploading to imageshack. Imageshack friendly file types are jpg, jpeg, png, gif, bmp, tif, tiff, swf. To change the file type when your saving the image after you hit save as, before you save it below the file name is a drop down box for saving it as different file types. As seen below:

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~How do I Host a Screenshot?~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    *****Imageshack and Other Hosting Websites
    Register for imageshack here: http://reg.imageshack.us/content.php...gister&error=7
    I prefer imageshack over other sites like photobucket etc but I have friends who use those. Imageshack is a great site, I'd chose them. Just remember not to upload ****/offensive images and you should be fine.
    Heres a link for photobucket if you don't like imageshack for some reason :P
    http://photobucket.com/register.php?link=register_now
    *****Posting the Screenshot (Example with Imageshack)
    To post the screenshot, you have to enter the direct image link in the insert image. When you upload the image you should find the direct image link here in my images:
    Or here right after you upload the image:
    *****Credits
    All credits go to me, I put this together by myself. This can be redistributed anywhere by anyone, I don't really give a shit. Just put my name on this forum in the credits please.
    *****Thx For Reading, Questions, Comments
    Thx for reading my guide. Hope it helped you if you needed to know how to take a screenshot. Feel free to post questions or comments on my guide and I will surely fix it if needed.
    Two points:
    ALT + PrintScreen = Current Window
    PrintScreen = Entire Screen
    If you save it as a GIF or JPG (may be some color loss if you do this in paint) you can have larger images. An entire screen on 1024x768 resolution is too large for ImageShack in BMP format usually.
    Nice guide man, may also want to include links to PhotoBucket (just hyperlink when you mention it or something), although IS is better because on PB you need to register and it auto-resizes large images.
    I'd +rep you if legends still could = \
    well i use 800x600 so its not too big for imageshack but yes if its too big you will have to resize it. I'll add some of your points, thx.
    edit: added my own stuff and yours too.
    It's looking really good man. Other then linking to good screenshot-software (which are usually just BS and a waste of $), I can't think of much else you could add.
