Default Building a new computer. Asking for comments/suggestions

I'm trying to build a high end low cost computer. Before I buy it, I was wondering if any changes could be, or need to be made. The parts I have now are as follows:

    Processor
    (refurbished): AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+

    RAM: Samsung PC3200 512MB X2

PSU: Fortron FSP SAGA AX500-A 500W

Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 320GB SATA2

    Motherboard: DFI LANParty UT NF4

    Case: Logisys CS-51WBK 51W Black

    Monitor (refubished): LG L203WT 20IN

Video Card: EVGA E-GEFORCE 7900 GT KO Superclocked

All prices are in Canadian and I would prefer to buy all parts from Ncix.com.

Total Cost: $1,441.69 (before tax and shipping. about 100 more with both added on)

Thanks in advance for any help that may show up.

I would hold off until Intel releases the Core2 chip to the public (if they have already done so, I appologize). It is FIFTY PERCENT faster then the Core Duo in tests and is really an amazing chip that blows even AMD out of the water.

It will be really expenssive now, if you can hold off a month I would. Dell and other companies are beginning to ship it in their high end PCs. The price will drop quickly.

They have the Core2 desktop and the Core2 labtop versions comming out. In the chip world such a high increase is unheard of, usually they are just slightly better then the previous model. AMD is hurting over this news.

Propaganda. I'll believe it when I see it.

well, it depends what you're planning on doing/programs you're gonna use on this comp. you might need a better vid card or more ram(i have 512 and works well but i don't play super ram required games either)

Its benchmarks done by independant companies with no bias in past tests. They real. It was more like a 45% increase in preformace from the core duo benchmarks done on the same PC.

if your gonna spend the money on a good computer, you should wait for the new processor...if you want to spend that much, buy the best, i agree w/ the ati purchase as well...sorry nvidia...but you cant keep up...

As far as I know, the card I have now is on par with the ATI x1900xt.

    Updated price in first post.

And about the whole "ati is better than nvidia". The GeForce 7950 GX2 is currently the best video card out.

I would like to correct you there. It is the best for GAMING out there at the moment. For 3D graphics or movie making\editing ATI cards have always been superior to GeForce.

And some ATI might work better for games like CS. Valve has always supported ATI far more then NVIDIA for some strange reason.

    Additional Comment:
As I said, it's still pricey. This chip was originally nicknamed the "Conro" but it is now considered the "Core2 Desktop"

I'd hold off until Late 2006/ Early 2007 because AMD will be coming out with their socket AM3 and new processor. Also, the 8th Gen nVidia card might come out adn Windows Vista

For the RAM, i'd go with 2g of RAM, 1g x2 from Corsair

I like to thank Frogman for making my awesome sig!

That was a rumor that spread over the internet. AMD did not buy ATI, both companies have denied it publicly and the merge would have been complete by now

Probably some guy posted it on a blog and it spread like wildfire, as most rumors do.

ok so ati was not instantly bought, but they will merge. as with any merger, it takes a long time. it does not happen over night
