I read the basic runeword information on diablo2.com. But i still don't understand. I'm trying to make spirit. Using a royal shield with 4 socket but it has all resistances +11. Will the the runeword work?

as long as your on ladder, and the shield didnt need to be identified (i.e. was rare, magical, crafted, unique)
