I believe that blizzard has detected the Sting's maphack program that I downloaded and closed my account. Has this ever happened to anyone and is it a temporary or permanent thing? Does anyone know a safe alternative for maphack. (Yes this did much more than just reveal the map. It contained a lot of other conveniences)

Use Reveal ONLY! I take it you didn't read any of the other posts and guides here on how to use it so that you weren't banned. If this is your first offense it is usually a 30 day ban and your accounts closed.
