Default Problem with my Vid. Card?

Hey I have a problem and I'm pretty sure it's my video card. When I play newer games like CSS and GW after a few minutes, I get a multi coloured grid, On the screen of course. However when I play stuff like D2 and a PSX emulator it's fine. I don't know if its the fan or what, cause I blew it and my whole computer out with an air compressor. I've updated my drivers and what not.

    Current card: ATI Radeon x800xl 256mb (PCI-E).

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

What do you mean a multi colored grid? Describe it more please. On CSS there is a purple and black grid that you sometimes see which is just the skins that you dont have installed but I dont know if thats your problem. Also when you blew your computer out with the air compresser did you hold the fan while you were doing it?

Mob, from my experiences yes. You arent supposed to move the fan when the computer isnt running or you can burn the bearings out.

you may have just blown the fan, a video card like that should be able to run those games easily, the only thing i ca think of for now is try setting the games on a lower resolution and see if that helps any

Make sure you got the latest version of direct x as well. Make sure that you can see your fan spinning while the computer is on. If your cards fan goes out or is going out, it won't take long for you to notice, I promise. Run some performance software and see what it says about your vid card specs. If they're not close to where they should be then send it back, maybe you got some bad video ram? <---- Hella Long Shot

Ok, Divine, it's not the map or model problem, it covers the whole screen.

I have the latest Direct X, 9.0c I think it is.

I have lowered the settings on the games, and even my windows to help it a little.

Once it happens it lasts until I restart the computer, and once it happens it even carries out to windows lol.

I can't send it back cause I've had it for a year and a half already.

I guess the only solution is to buy another card then.

    Thanks guys.

    Default Hot card

It sounds like you video card is getting hot. your fan may turning but it is probably not turnign up to speed and over heating the gpu. if you go to the ati website you can register your card then submit a post to them with the problem. they should point you in the right direction.

If thats the problem that it isnt getting enough speed then you can try over clocking... just be careful if you do that.

your ambient case temp could be too high.. try having a fan blowing into your case
    or
it could just be that your card is past its prime

make sure the fan isnt sticking. it could be that its running too hot. if necessary, get a case fan or a secondary fan for it. most common you are using a skinning program for windows that interferes with the newer games since they run on the system dlls that the computer typically uses.

I am familiar with people overclocking, but I don't know how to do it myself.
