    Default Vista

    What's everyones thoughts about it?

I've had it installed on a seperate HDD (I can't let go of XP) and so far, I absolutely love it. I have no program conflicts. ReadyBoost totally rules ass. Everything opens in a snap with it.

The only con so far; it takes an extra minute to boot up compared to XP.

Im gonna stick with XP to see how vista goes. As i've heard there are alot of flaws/bugs. The only way you get vista to run smooth is with alot of ram. My friends system uses near 1gb while idle. Thats pretty insane seeing i only have 1.5gb.

If i was to get vista i would only consider the ultimate edition. Not because its the best.. its that performance wise ultimate is the only one that differs from xp that much its worth buying.

Vista looks nice and all...but it seems like a lot of the features on it are kinda useless. Some of my friends have used it but don't really prefer it over xp. I'll wait till I set up a new computer before I try it myself.

I just got my new laptop that came wih Vista Ultimate. It works well, and so far it's bug free.

I just set up a new Dell last night running Vista. Nice eye candy but the side bar with clock and what not had to go, takes up to much screen real estate.
I really liked being able to see a thumbnails of all web sites that were open so I could scroll through them before selecting.
I am getting a little irritated with all the "do you wish to allow" windows popping up constantly.
I have to give credit to Vista for how easy it was to setup my new broadband router which was quick and easy even without using the Netgear supplied setup disk.
Time will tell, no major bugs yet.

    P.S. I'm running 2 gig ram.

You should disable User Account Control. It stops all of those Do you wish to allow msg's. To do so, you goto control panel -> User Accounts and Family Safety -> User Accounts -> Highlight your account (If Theres more than one) -> Than goto Turn User Account Control On or Off -> Than click the check box.

I spent the first 5 minutes with Vista trying to figuring out how to do that. The PC vs Mac commercial prepared me for it.

    @killforfood
Control Panel>User Accounts>Turn User Account Control on or off>Restart computer

I'm going to wait for vista until the summer, not because of the "bugs", but since my ram is older, it runs at a lower speed. Sure its 4gb, but 450 mhz DDR2 >.< After i get myself some 667 i'll switch.

Ha. I found something irritating. I can't for the life of me find out how to take a picture with my built in camera. In XP I could just goto My computer, not the case anymore I guess.

Vista is a pointless piece of shit, I don't see any reasons for why I should install it. Even Microsoft has admitted that it was a waste of time and they are coming out with a new Windows at the end of next year. Vista died before it was born.

When I opened my User CP, I noticed that you had posted in this thread. Being the psychic that I am, I knew, down to the last word, what you had said.

I don't mind though. Everyone is different.

Lol, sucks for my neighbors, because they just bought a new desktop and laptop with vista on both. I guess a of that money went down the drain. I am just going to stick with Xp pro and have my halo modding computer running 2K pro.

Vista is nice for everything but gaming imo. Even with the new direct X on it its hard to install a lot of old things. I even had some problems installing new games like WoW on vista, game crashes and other problems. I use vista for school things now and i enjoy it a lot. I run xp for my games.

its okay but gets buggy if you use it alot. and the requirements for some of the games are a bit much. i mean come on. 30-50 gigs for halo 2. not to mention it wont run the older games.

What older games won't run? Ski Free? MahJong Tiles?

Every older game I have works on it, D2, simcity 3000, red alert 2, halo, cs. People just don't know what they're doing.

i'm talking about older. NFS, NFS2, NFS2se, cat n mouse, monopoly, duke nukem. not to mention some older software it uses more memory and space to run the old ones. I stuck server 2003 on it for my winamp server and instead of the usual 550mb. it took 4.77gb
