Default Who here believes in a higher power?

I'm curious as to who believes that there certainly is a creator out there - and that the universe didn't just spontaneously happen. I'm not asking "WHO BELIEVES IN THE GOD THAT THE BIBLE TELLS US TO BELIEVE IN" but just that there is certainly a creator that we will not name.

Personally I do, in fact I'm catholic although I'm not bringing religion into this.

For those of you that don't - I'm curious as to where you think the Universe came from.

I do not know if there is a higher power or not. I am neutral in the position. However I believe in evolution. I saw a Nova episode I think the other day talking about the debate. Some higher power believers, believe in a term called creationism. They then changed it to, intelligent design. It was then ruled by the court that it cannot be taught in school. Just for a little information for you guys haha.

I sometimes think why do Christians trip over evolution. God could of made everything, and then he sat there watching us evolve. But I guess they just want to believe a higher power just poofed us.

Actually as far as I'm aware the pope even accepts evolution.

I can't staaaaand the stereotypical mid-western bible thumper that in all honesty takes everything they hear and blows it out of proportion being that they're uneducated swine and don't know what the hell they're doing and just pull shit out of their ass. But whatever it's what they like.

Ahaha. Then I guess I'm talking about the guys who goes mad when people believes in evolution.

Hey you should really watch that episode of Nova. It was very interesting. Watching the Christians getting owned was fun too. Seriously there was this one part where I rolled on floor laughing because they were just owned...

No proof, no belief. Frankly I don't care how the universe came to be, I care about right now and looking to the future. I don't get why everyone has to have a "reason" that humans walk the earth.

Ah crap, this is going to be a touchy subject for some.

Alright, here's my deal. I DO believe in a 'Creator', I'm not so naive to believe that everything just came to be. Something had a hand in it (and I don't believe it was the 'Big Bang' either)

However, I do NOT believe in the God of the Bible anymore. I used too. It messed me up, big time. I can now say with great certainty that it was all hogwash, I was sucked in to the never ending supply of information and brainwashed. What snapped me out of it I don't know but it was the WORST year of my life and all I did differently was try to live my life for God.

What did I get to show for it? A broken heart, a dissolved marriage that shouldn't have happened in the first place, a few friends lost, a job lost, having to rebuild my rapport with my family and a whole lot of headaches.

Was it worth it? Hell no! All anyone can do is learn from their mistakes and move on. Whoda thought that a mistake learned would be that believing the Bible as truth and nothing more or less would ruin your life?

    Not I.

Thats alot more info then the question asked entailed but... I'm a writer so when I start it just keeps going.

Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending

Agnostics claim either that it is not possible to have absolute or certain knowledge of the existence or nonexistence of God or gods; or, alternatively, that while individual certainty may be possible, they personally have no knowledge. Agnosticism in both cases involves some form of skepticism.

never heard that term...it fits well.
Mushroomhead, you said it well, I agree wholeheartedly.

Ah well thats a great word. I have to put that in my vocabulary. I don't think people will know what that means when you tell them your Agnostic lol.

You can never take something like this to seriously... The reason the world is so ****ed up now is because people don't take things seriously enough. Every time you see me argue something with someone on this forum I am being passionate. I have been told I am a very passionate person, and I would agree with that. If I believe in something I will defend it until the end, you as well as everyone else here have seen that. I MY opinion more people need to be passionate.

But don't be so passionate that you don't see other peoples point of view, and see if their beliefs are correct. Passion is good, passion clouding reality and the search for answer is not.

I believe there is a higher "power" now whether or not you get what you want when you ask for it relies on this thing called FAITH!

    Faith:
    • To believe without reason:
      • Believing impulsively, or believing based upon social traditions or personal hopes.
In either case, faith is based upon the interpretation of the intangible (feelings, emotions, etc.) instead of the physically tangible and is primarily associated with religion in modern times.

So if I have 'faith' and a 'personal hope' it will happen? I don't think so, thats pretty foolish thinking actually. And yes, at one point I did think that, but at some point you have to open the eyes and see beyond. Can you have faith in a person? Yes, I put that up there with trust...faith and trust are intertwined, but faith that I will 'receive' is not quite how it goes.

Faith in your partner, your fellow men, your friends, is very important, because without it there's no mutual component to your relationship, and relationships are important. So faith plays an important role, but faith in people you don't know, faith in religious or political leaders or even people on stages, people who are popular in the public eye, you shouldn't have faith in those people. You should listen to what they have to say and use it.

    There is no logical start to the universe. It is either;

    1. Everything started with nothing and than the universe burst into existence.
    2. There was a greater power who created everything; where this power came from makes no more sense than the big bang theory.

But with the beginning aside, evolution makes near perfect sense.

If there is by some chance a higher power, than he does nothing to or for you, and you are still on your own. This is obvious by the state of the world. So even if there is a high power there is no point in worrying about it.
