    Default making a server for open people without using the open part in d2

    so for some reason i cant host a open server for me and my friend to play on and for some reason neather can he. he can join other servers but ive only been able to join 2 out of the millions ive tried to join. so many googles later i came up with D2GS and PVPGN or something like that and i have NO clue what to do with any of that.

    anywho does anyone know any way i can host like a dedicated D2 server fo for me and my friend running d2 1.12?

    thanks!

    You can install PVPGN on windows and linux i think. I've had a quick go at setting up a server here on blizzsector.co and it seemed to work ok. (linux)

    Can download from here:
    PvPGN :: Downloads
    http://www.pvpgn.pl/d2gs/
    .

    From what i gather D2GS is windows based and PVPGN linux.
    Make sure any firewalls you have are disabled or have the server ports added to allow people to connect.

    D2GS:
    http://www.pvpgn.pl/d2gs/dl.php?f=D2GS-111b(35) > V1.1b server
    http://www.pvpgn.pl/d2gs/dl.php?f=D2GS-112a(1) > V1.12 server

    1. copy the files in this package to a diretory;
    2. copy all the Diablo II 1.10 files(DLLs and MPQs) to the same directory;
    3. double click the file "install.bat" to install the D2GS server
    4. use "regedit" tool to edit some parameters in the system registry,
    in \\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\D2Server\D2GS\, mainly change the "D2CSIP"
    and "D2DBSIP" to your specified IP address, others can remain to default value;
    5. start the service "Diablo II Close Game Server" in the system service controler,
    or run "net start d2gs" command.

    now you can telnet to the game server's port 8888 to do some administration job.
    the default password is "abcd123", and you can changed in the administration console.

    enjoy yourself!

    Some Administration Notes:

    1. add "MOTD" (Message of The Day) in the registry. when a charater enter a game, he
    will see the message. you can change MOTD in the administration console with command
    "setmotd"

    2. add a administration console command "kick", with which you can kick a player out
    of the game.

    3. add a administration console command "msg", with which you can send a message to
    a player in the game.
    MessageType can be "SYS", "C", "MT", "MC", "SC"
    Target can be "#all", "#{GameId}", "CharName"

    4. add command "maxuser", when online user number reach the setting, the maxgame will
    automatically set to zero. and when the online user number reduce to (maxuser-8), the
    maxgame will restore.

    5. enable maxgamelife parameter. when game life reach the setting, the Game Server will
    tell the online to quit. and one minute later, the player in that game will be kicked
    out, and the game will be destroy soon. set the value to zero to disable this feature.

    6. add command "we". you can see the world event status with the game server.

    i did the D2GS instructions but when i launched it nothing happend. im copying the diablo II game files right? because when i look in the game directory theres all dll and mpq files there so did i do it right? or is it because im version 1.12?

    EDIT: oh and the link for the 1.12 PVPGN gives a white page that says "file does not exsist"

    EDIT: nevermind it works.
