Post No Locked Chests in Diablo III

Bashiok has revealed that there will be no locked chests in Diablo III!

Mix it up a bit and make finding a chest exciting, but make finding a special chest something even rarer and more exciting. It could certainly make exploring the entire floor of a dungeon more compelling before moving on.

That's good. Keys were a stupid feature of D2. You could buy them in town for like 6g a piece or something, so what was the point of making locked chests in the first place? They took up valuable inventory space, too. I have my ID tome and my TP tome on the first 4 spaces, then 2 life and 2 mana pots in the next ones, just to have refills. keys made it all uneven and stuff.

I like this idea. In D2 when I first started, I thought actually finding a chest was a good thing and got you good items, In d3 i want it to be like a good thing to find a chest.

Will DIII chests still be as insignificant though? If so, it doesn't really matter if they require keys or not. Also, locked chests always dropped way more/better items than regular unlocked chests. Will all chests in DIII drop like regular chests or locked chests?

Bashiok made it sound like chests will be more significant. I know I never really bothered opening a chest in D2, but D3 sounds like I should have to.

Seriously, did u just read the title of the thread and thats it? The Quote posted by Spit basically says there will be Special chests or Rare Chests that will have better loot.

    +1

The keys were really an annoyance, I mean I kept a bunch for locked chests, but thats one spot I could be using and then when you delve deep and realize you have no key for that chest its like "OMG I am not going to town to buy one key and then find out this chest does not even have enough gold to reenburse me for the cost of that key" I think it was a big design flaw.
