the problem is that the vid card is usually soldered onto the motherboard

In some instances yes. Such as a dell that came with a geforce 7800go you could upgrade with a 7900.

If your laptop came with an inbuilt intel style then no you would not be able to change it.
Even if i was to replace it. you cannot replace it by a regular video card like the one you would use in a regular computer right?

Yeah i been looking around and i figured you couldn't do so. so yeah i think i am getting a desktop... i wanted a laptop for portability but it seems so hard to manage for the upgrades i will probably want to do to it later.
