Getting Back into d2...? AGAIN! :) -- Oldschool Player Here

Hey folks. I haven't played D2 for about 6-8 years. I found my DVD's during a recent move, and I haven't been gaming much, and this seems fun... Need a RPG break inbetween COD:MW2... Back in the day(many patches ago) I had a 97 necro and a frost sorc. I ended up selling this account long time ago. Right now I am looking for a place to buy Diablo 2 + Expac CD keys(Legit of course). I have the DVd's for d2 and the expansion, so all is well. I want to get back into the groove.

A few questions before hand.


I tried to get back into it about 3-4 years ago, but I bought the game, made a new account, and started up "mousepad map hack", played for about 3-4 mins, and was banned lol... My fault I should of read the readme. Are there any Maphacks out that work as well as Mousepads used to/does?(W/out getting banned).

Bots...? What kind of bots are around now days? I used to run Meph/Baal bots all the time. I've done a little lookin, cant find an updated one :\ ... Oh well... Do good ones still exist?

When was the last "dupe". I remember back in the day duping everything and anything with packet editing. Are there ANY dupes that still work? Or has it been ALONG time since a working "dupe" has worked?

Trade hacking? You know what I mean, the item "looks" like is in the window, but it is only an image, click the trade button and you lose all your stuff. Tell me these are all fixed? At least no public ones?

Last time I actually PLAYED, was back on 1.04 I think, or 1.05, i THINK again, lol. I read through the patch messages and looks like they almost made a new game, lol... is this for the better or worse?

Private Servers ....? I have a "non-legit" copy of D2+expac on my computer right now, Are there any really good private servers around still? I'm not looking for open b-net dueling, but more so along the line of the good ole "vanilla mod"(If that is still around)...I want to try and find a good private server until I get my CD keys(Even if I have to buy the DVD's again, which I don't really want to....Any recommendations?

Speaking of Open-Bnet dueling .... How has it been? Still the same ole' godly players with epic custom sets(All because they say down and spent the time to actually DO the math on negatives and max'es).. Has it been patched soooo much that open duel games suck? Or is it fairly the same?

Also, I used to packet edit quite a bit back in the day(duping mostly, but whatever was out at the time I was into..., I am sure most of it is the same (except some patched things), anyway... Is it still fun, and able to make custom godlies and go rape players who download the "premade" sets?

MH: As far as I know, any new mh that comes out is almost instantly detected and eventually you'll get banned. One of the people here said there was something like stings (which was .11 I believe) where it just reveals the map as if you walked to every single place, but nothing else besides that. I never try them anymore anyhow.

Bots: D2NT is the most famous bot out and running. However, it seems like every single person on bnet is running one (which I do, but thats because I have no time to just sit and play),

Dupes: As far as I know, every single method of public duping is gone now and what dupes there is, all programs are private. Good luck investing in a dupe you might see online, 99% it won't work. In fact, up until this patch or .12, those sites that sold the dupe, was the lag method. Not only that, but with the increase in rune drop, its almost unpopular to dupe nowadays. I havent even seen a thread on d2jsp where someone is selling obviously duped shit.

Trade Hacking: Is gone, unless you fall for the ol' item switch method. Which, I don't ever trade on d2 nowdays anyways, so I don't worry about that.

The Game: I never played the game online til the end of '09-10, but most of the shit they came out with (besides items) is more like side quests. Now though, runewords have really taken over.
