Throwing Barb Question

Im planning on making a barb for PvM. Just Soemthing to play around with but is still good. Im making a throwing barb that uses Gimmershreds and uses the skills: Whirlwind, Frenzy, and Double Throw.

Now my question is; Gimmershreds are labeled by the game as an "Axe Class Weapon" So, should I put the points into Axe Mastery or Throwing Mastery? Does the Throwing Mastery only apply when then Gimmershreds are thrown. I listed some example questions below. Please answer if possible.

Example #1: Using Dual Gimmershreds I attack a Balrog with Whirlwind. Which mastery applies? Axe or Throwing?

Example #2: Using Dual Gimmershreds I attack a Balrog with Double Throw. Which mastery applies? Axe or Throwing?

Remember I'm only asking because of how the Gimmershreds are labeled as an "Axe Class Weapon".

Gimmershreds are listed under throwing weapons at Arreats summit. SO i would think throwing mastery would work.

Yes I see that Arreat Summit list them as Throwing Weapons but if you look at the item itself ingame, it says it is an Axe Class. I have a link down below that shows the item ingame.

Also, i am still wondering if throwing mastery only takes effect if the gimmershreds are being thrown or not. If they are not being thrown but instead being used for melee, which mastery takes effect.....Axe or Throwing?

maybe you can use hero editor and on open tet the dmg before throwing/attacking how you want without the masteries then it with the masteries.

Good idea. If you look at any throwing weapon its class is never "Throwing". So the best way too see what works would be too test it. If you dont have hero editor. i got mine at download.com. Zonfire is what i have.
