They should make a padded piece of armor with them on it, or put a picture to-size of an Archon Plate on the T-Shirt and it would be GG.

What purpose do runes serve in D2?Is it like money?

sorta. Most trades are done "Ill give u this item for x high runes"

and when you put certain runes into armor, you get a runeword, which has awesome stats.
