I would guess there is no account stealer out there. But there is that one called brute force that tries a lot of passes or something.

I hear all that all the time. The famous quote "MY ACCOUNT GOT HACKED!" Now don't get me wrong I do believe there are a FEW people out there who do it, BUT! There is a good chance it was just the Blizzard staff because a lot of people like to use D2HackIt. They use it more then they should then turn around and wonder why they lost everything. Those people's accounts weren't HACKED per se, it's more like this:

Dude 1: "OMFG I can haxxor accounts!"

Dude 2: "Oh yeah? Tell me!!"

Dude 1: "Well go to www.somesite.com and download that file, and put in the account you wanna hack."

Dude 2: "Awesome!" (Goes to site, downloads hack and runs it.)

(Program gives fake error message and installs trojan or keylogger)

(Program sends login info to Dude 1)

(Dude 1 logs into Dude 2's account and steals his items)

(Dude 2 logs in, find his stuff gone, and commits suicide)

The end..

The moral to this story: Don't believe ANYONE that says you can hack accounts, they're full of shit and are probably just trying to steal your account, then you'll kill youself for losing your Perfect Enig and HoTO.

Brute force just has a bunch of passwords and guesses a million times. If it can bruteforce a starcraft account it can do it to diablo II. They're both linked lol.

You can use brute force on bnet account the address is bnet.usaeast.net or what ever realm u play on. the only thing is , it is really tracable ,. and you can get cualt every easly, bc brute force enters a Pw ever 5 seconds and bnet Stops ever 5 enterys, Brute force sends the Pw strairt to the Pw recover and trys to ge tthe Pw without Bnet nowing you have tryed 5 or more times, So you can try 5 or mor times, thats how it is so tracable. Brute force is easily detected and stopped, and since now whenever you log-in it tells you of any failed log-in attempts, somebody is aware and can change their password to something less likely to be forced when they see "Failed log-in attempts: 153" which happened to somebody I know.

Plus it takes way too long and is rarely worth the hassle. Theoretically it could steal any account on B.NET, but to do so.. you'd spend more time trying to steal and have no time left to play at all anyway. Not to mention coming up with the right "dictionary" and so on. (shrugs) Take about 40-60 possible characters and up to.. what is it on bnet, a 16 character limit? Yeah.

Most people can't hack accounts, they just claim they can. Some people will even try and fool you.. (shrugs) Lots of scammers out there, but only 1/10 are creative.

My opinion is: The person who can actually steal accounts, is going to be the one you never hear talking about it.

agreed, besides, after about 3-5 failed logins, you cant get on bnet for like 5 mins, brute forcing does like 20 PW attempts/second(with a good ISP), so, all the times of the 5 mins or so, it would say incorrect pass pretty much, thats about 6000 passwords that it goes through, and falsely says they are incorrect, GL with that

I believe there are people that could take accounts if they wanted to, but are very few. If your account happens to get taken, or items missing, it is because of the reason above, or other tricky tactics people use. Such as befriending you and then getting you to give up your password, or maybe even scams you into giving out your password.
