Most of todays music including most metal is corporate. Would slipknot wear masks and boiler suits if they didn't want money? The answer is no. They contradict all these stupid reasons. they dream up for using such gimmicks, just like 50 cent and all that other crud.

First, because you all are wrong, hair metal kicks everything's ***. They looked slick and made up, they could play their respective instruments, they had REAL vocalists, they made lots of money, they got laid alot, and some of them even made music with groove. What else could you ask for? Need any of you provide a legit answer? I think that is not possible.

Seriously bro, hang it up. You want to rag on Slipknot because of how they dress? Take a look in the mirror, brotha. If Slipknot really wanted money they would be doing Disturbed metal. Atleast they have a somewhat distinct sound; I can distinguish Slipknot from other nu-metal acts. Then again, I am super human godly pimp sex machine 5000, so I don't expect everyone else to hear the obvious, as I do.

50 Cent is legit; he's gangster. He's been shot, he's been in jail for selling drugs, and he's selling records. He's making money, getting laid, and people recognize him. Hell, he even has little children give him free publicity by making shit talks about him on the internet. Atleast one kid, from this thread I guarantee, will think "Who is this 50 Cent character?" and download/buy his stuff and get into him. Seriously, way to fuel the fire. Tools.

^ Most intelligent post, evAr.

After seeing that post I realized that yes, 50 Cent could be alot worse. He could just be another little Usher running around, dancing like the little qu33r he is.
#28
Usher is a totally different discussion. But, I was just stating "that Fitty is back."

slipknot Possibly the biggest scam the record industry has ever perpetrated on to the metal scene. They are truly crap product (not band) manufactured (and YES they were mnufactured, like it or not; those gimmicks are nothing to do with the music at all. They contradict every excuse they dream up for having masks/boiler suits/9 members/whatever) that were marketed at teens who want to rebel against their parents because they're not mature enough to understand music yet. Often described as "the most extreme metal band on the planet"...I will say one thing: go buy some REAL death metal and listen to that. You want extreme? Get some music that's extreme, but with musicians who write what they want to (not what the record company tells them to) AND plays it ridiculously well. What is worse is that some of the ****wads in this band are actually reasonable musicians...now I ask why the **** would they be in ShitKnot if they weren't in it for the money? They could be in any metal band they please to be in, so why choose a restricted, commercial, mass-marketed angst-vehicle? The only motivation is money. I would also like to point out the difference between ShitKnot and extreme metal in it's many forms. They are NOT Death Metal, Black Metal, Grindcore, Thrash Metal, Heavy Metal, Power Metal, Doom Metal or any of the derivatives thereof. They are a nu-metal band recycling Sepultura songs with added commerciality. Just because they are 'different' to the current crop of nu-metal PRODUCTS (not bands), does not make them any less commercial. And on another note, I would like to point out that they treat their road crew like shit. Those roadies work 20 hour days for months on end so that the band can get up on stage and do a gig with the minimum of fuss. Some respect is required. There is a story about them kicking the shit out of their monitor engineer on stage, which is just something you DO NOT do. Those guys put ridiculous hours in to make your life easy and then you kick the shit out of them? Get your shit sorted out you ****ing low life scum. Even some shite hiphop "gangsta" band wouldn't do that. So please remember, Slipknot are a PRODUCT, not a BAND. When you go out to buy music, LISTEN to it first; don't buy what your mates tell you to. Don't buy what the adverts or magazines tell you to. Go out and LISTEN to music from bands who don't require gimmicks to write and play good songs. Slipknot = extreme, heavy, fast, marketed at teenagers Cannibal Corpse = more extreme, heavier, faster, unmarketed.

Lmao, are you even involved in the music business buddy? I live music. I go to concerts more than I sleep in my own bed, and i'm in the works of recording a PROFESSIONAL quality demo. Let me fill your ignorant *** in on the basics of the recording industry. It's obvious you're just some loser on the internet spewing rumors about the recording industry.

When you are signed to a record label, you are asked one thing, and that one thing is to produce records. There are many sub catagories they want; but producing music is the main thing. If they thought you would not sell, you would not have gotten signed, period. Once signed, you agree to earn X amount of dollars per record, and even at that, you only get paid once the record company has gotten every last penny they had invested in you back. They also have a catch to where you give them a percent of your touring, merch, etc. They OWN you.

When you get signed, you are who you are. Who Slipknot was before they were signed, I do not know. Once signed, however, you begin to morph. You are assigned what is commonly known as a "producer," and their job can be taken quite literally. They, in a sense, PRODUCE YOUR ****ING RECORD. You go in, lay down a general style, and they morph, shift, shape, and change every little thing until it is perfect. The wonderful thing is, once you're signed, you really don't have a choice but to produce. One clause is the band broke up and there is no getting back together. Other than that, you're obligated to produce those ****ing records. Even then, many bands are STILL forced to fufill their contract.

It is only business.

Through out the sands of time, people have been changed by business. Would you like to name one band, signed to ANY record label, who has not changed for the label's liking? Cannibal Corpse have evolved through the years. You'd be a damned liar if you said they haven't. Their original records were brutal, and their newer records have a new edge to them. Some call it weaker, some call it rawer, some call it shittier, some call it their best work. It is obviously from a different angle. People change, but in the recording business, you are FORCED to change. You produce records like you want too; after all, you are the musician. The record companies and actual Producers SHAPE your sound. They WILL make it somewhat marketable. No record company will invest the money and time in a studio if they can't make their money back. It's a waste, and bad business.

Slipknot recently had Rick Ruben produce a record. Rick Rubin was responsible(IMO) for the 'new' Slayer sound. New, as in beyond Seasons. Slipknot put out a trash new record. Rick Rubin produced it. Wow, can you make the connection? All the members in Slipknot are the same. They're still from Iowa and they still wear masks? Wow, I wonder where the new sound came from? Oh, don't even make me respond.

Bottom line? YOU don't know what you're talking about, and YOU just don't like Slipknot. Just because YOUR opinion is that Slipknot is BAD does NOT mean they are a comercial band. EVERY band that puts CDs out that actually make it to Best Buy is comercial. I don't know where the hell you're from, but the Best Buys in Gainesville, Florida sell Cannibal Corpse.

Knowledge is power. Learning is the first step.

Tool.

I am the only one that thinks the term "tool" is overused? seriously think up a new insult.
#32
Tool is not censored. I don't use overly offensive insults, because I belittle and make people look wrong with facts, not witty insults.
#33
Wow ... very heavy heated arguments. I love the intelligence (and some of the lack thereof) in this thread. This is what forums were made for. ^_^

Damn... Holla at that [lmfao]

Woah we went from Fitty to Slipknot And Cannibal Corpse.

I'm just waiting for B!tch to post in here again, lol. This should be getting better soon. xDBD definetly seems to know what he's talking about, and when it comes to music, I have a new respect for him.
#36
A producer only deals in your music.
#37
A producer is commonly called the 'unofficial 6th member' (or 5th, 10th, whatever, however many members you have) of a band for a reason..

Heh. I'm from Iowa and when you live in Iowa you either know a member of the band or someone related to the band or you know someone who knows someone in or related to the band. For instance, my AP english teacher Mrs. Davis lives next door to Corey Taylor and baked him cookies. She said he's really nice. My uncle is friends with Corey Taylor's mom.

I personally don't like SlipKnot. =\ Their guitarist just really pisses me off. =\

I didn't read all of those huge posts, but I agree that hairmetal isn't the best thing out there. I like rock of course, and not hiphop, but hairmetal just sounds "cheaper" than the other bands out there. And Slipnot=skater music. I have no idea why they like that type of stuff other than they probably think slipnot's badass for wearing all of those costumes. I don't know if guns n' roses is hairmetal or not, I don't think they are, even if they are in the 80's. Their music sounds so much greater than bands like Motley crue, poison, and warrant. Sorry for getting offtopic, I don't know how this whole thread got diverted to slipnot and hairmetal.
