PVP/PVM Holy Shock Paladin (Gota come up with a cool name for this build
)
This is a character mainly build for fun but pretty damn good PvP *and* PvM. There are too many people who play the game and get bored of all of the same old character builds. Try this out, you'll love it ^^
- Skills:
20 into Holy Shock (Duh..)
20 into Resist Lightning (Synergy)
20 into Fantacism (Synergy)
The rest are optional, but I recommend Prayer and Holy Bolt. Everyone loves a healer during questing / runs ;P
1 into each of the prerequirements.
Put anything else into whatever skill you want. Remember, this character is for fun. Try out something new ^^
- Stats:
Strength: A minimum of 77 (Enigma and Widow), a Maximum of 150. It really shouldn't go over 100. I think I have about 118 currently, but it's over 150 with my items.
Energy: Don't put any into energy. I have none and my gear barely gives any, and I rarely chug pots.
Dexterity: Enough to use all of your items. I believe the highest will be 150 (for Widow)
Vitality: Every spare point here.
- As for equipment..
* Rings: 2x SoJs (Recommended)
-or- : 2x Bul Katho's Wedding Band (I use this)
-or- : Resist / Absorb Rings. (Since the rings listed above give about +1k max lightning damage each, it might be in your favor to swap damage for staying alive in some situations)
* Bow: Widowmaker (optional facet, Shael, or Nef) (A Must! The build depends on this bow... but you can get away with even the junkiest bow until you get a Widow. The main idea here is to deliver your lightning damage fast and from a distance. A Shocking Bow of Storms can accomplish this, though ;P and is pretty fun to use. Also consider Kuku Shakuku because it's just plain fun to use.)
* Boots: I have no clue. I use Sandstorm Treks or something. I can't really find anything that helps this build any more than another type of boots. The strength that the Sandstorm Treks add helps, though.
* Helmet: Andariel's Visage with a +15% IAS Jewel in it. This will give you +35% IAS, +2 skills, and a ton more defense than a Shako. The +2 Skills increases your damage by about 1.4k. I use this.
* Armor: A 4 socket armor with 4x +15% IAS jewels. I believe that is the best possible, but you could go with a Fort or Chains of Honor.
-or- : A 4 socket armor with 2x +15% IAS jewels and 2x Lightning Facets. I use this.
* Belt: Goldwrap (Adds IAS). I use this.
-or- : Nosferatu's Coil (IAS, Slow Enemy)
* Amulet: +3 Offensive Auras Amulet (Best...) I use this.
-or- : The Cat's Eye (Adds IAS)
* Items on Switch: Call to Arms flail, Lidless Eye Shield (optional) Hells no I'm too poor.
-or- : Any bow that gives you the ability to use Split Arrows. This would be good for crowd control : ). You may also find this on gloves or whatever. If you're using a healer, set your Holy Bolt and Prayer to your weapon switch and use Spirit items.
* Gloves: Anything with IAS. I use Lava Gouts. Occasionally add +100 fire damage when they enchant you
Inventory:
- Use as many poison/fire/lightning/cold damage charms as you can get your hands on to raise your minimum damage. I have about 2k worth of poison damage in small charms.
- Use Offensive GCs. They're cheap; buy some.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- This build is really open. It's a build that's pretty open-ended, comsidering you only have to max out three skills to be fully synergized and be pretty effective.
- He isn't the best tanker but if you just get enough str/dex to use the gear and get a bunch of vitality you'll do fine. I can kill most monsters before they reach me, even in Hell. For lightning immunes, just spam normal arrows using the Widowmaker toward the immune while it's off-screen and it'll die eventually. I haven't encountered any real problems with immunes so far.
With a level 20+ Holy shock, maxed synergies and enough skills to use the items listed (as well as some/most/all of the items listed), he does at least a minimum of 1k damage damage and at least a maximum of 7k damage with the guided arrows. Mine did 8k once I got everything and tested it out. Kinda sweet for dueling, not the greatest but there isn't a flawless build out there and most of the others are VERY boring..
As of 03/13/05 I have everything listed as my recommended items. I do 2-13k damage per guided arrow and have about 100 IAS.
- This build pisses people off. Losing to an archer paladin is embarresing when you can take any other type easily. I know people I can't even hit with my charger (who does ~35k max damage currently), but I can take em in a few arrows with this character (Whirlwinders are an example).
- A fun mercenary to use with this character is an Act 1 Cold Rogue with a combined +3 skills with her items. This will allow her to use Lightning Hose, a not-so-well-known ability
Kinda cool looking as well. Plus a co-adventuring Archer is fun to have : )
The BEST one you could use is an act 2 Conviction Paladin. Having enemies 10 times as vulnerable to lightning damage is your friend, but these guys are stupid, ugly, and I just don't like them.
