I don't want to be a *****. But for all dial-up users, keep off online games. Your ruining the game for everyone else. I know a guy who plays CoD with a ping of 700, thats too high.

Wow, you actually play online Doom 3? Well anyways... I remember when I did have dial-up... It wasn't so bad, until I tried playing Battlefield Vietnam... But I've got cable now.

agreed dial upers need to stay on single player or with online games with bots. BY THEMSELVES untill they can afford at least a 256 dsl connection..

bad combination: Zoomancer+Baal Run+Dial-Up
baaad combination. i wouldn't go so far as to "ban" them frmo online games, just to tell them that if they start lagging my game, they better leave out of decency, you know?
02-17-2005, 07:56 AM
As much as I agree with you's, I don't think dialers should be banned or whatever for something they really don't have much control of.
02-17-2005, 08:29 AM
They shouldn't be banned from anything, it's their choice if they want to play a game and p.i.s.s off everyone else playing it.

Did you say 700? Whoa! What an @$$. My ping is 26. If I was playing an RTS like RA2, I'd just ban him from the game. 700? That's f*****g insane!<king insane=""></king>

dial up users should be allowed to play. if you are in a game with them then just join a different room. Do you feel like paying for their cable modem?
02-20-2005, 06:42 PM
we all paid for our own cable modems. why should we have to suffer cuz of them?

<-- uses dial-up...
I don't lag anyone. But that's because I only play D2. I told myself I wouldn't play any FPSs or anything 'til I get DSL. ![]()

Well...if your playing a game that needs a fast connection, mainly any fps, on dial up then you shouldnt be playign that...but any battle.net game-Diablo II, Warcraft3, and starcraft-doesnt need a high speed connection. i have a dial-up connection(and i think mine is worste then most) and i run fine most of the time. every once in a while bad lag but once i also had lag where i dropped from game on Cable. so we shouldnt be banned from playing diablo2, warcraft3, or starcraft...but i agree we should stay out of almost everything else.

In MMO's Dial-Up users don't effect you in any way.
In FPS/RPG games (like CS or D2) your internet connection is important for your ping, but once again, you do not lag other players. It would take an entire realm of dial-up users for this to happen. Most likely your ping is skyrocketing, lagging you out because the servers are going to crap. They have been for months. I used to have 75fps on shitty DSL. Once the servers went downhill, I had about 10-30fps. Or it could be CD lag. I had that almost every time I took out diablo.

What a horribly idiotic post.
Perhaps you don't take into account that there are some people in this world who cannot have highspeed internet access even if they wanted to? I live in a very remote location, the only development out here has been my house and utilities (Phone and electricity). Now, I live a good hour away from any major community, do you really think a cable or DSL provider is going to run a connection to my area just for me? And no, you cannot use satellite internet for online gaming, the ping difference is too high since you are uploading via dial-up. I cause no disturbance while playing D2, I do not run any messenger services or any other programs that would dig into my precious 26.8kbs connection rate. (Kilobaud, not kilobyte) Now, what would be your solution to my problem..quit playing a game I enjoy? Or spend $120,000+ to pay off my mortgage, then get another to buy a house in an urbanized enviroment just so I can play Diablo 2? You know what you are? You are a connection nazi. No ping for you! Experiencing no lag on a dial-up connection while playing Diablo 2: LoD. - Priest

dL.Priest Wrote:What a horribly idiotic post.Yeah, you get the idea. You know, I completely agree with you. People shouldn't be criticized because of their connections. Either way, you're still playing...Right? So quit *****ing and play the damn game.

I saw this post some time ago and figured it wasn't worth the time to respond to...but I see people actually agreed that dial up users should be booted. My parents are divorced and my dad has a cable modem so everything is fine and dandy there. My mom, on the other hand, has a dial up connection. And you know what? I playe CS, DII, DoD, and SC for years on it. And now I play WoW, Neverwinter Nights, and WC3 on it. It pisses me off when I join a game on WC3 and I can't get any of the good maps or join a game with a decent number of players because some **** booted me for my ping being too high or taking too long to dl the map.
Oh and Nub...FPS = Frames per second. Has nothing to do with your connection but is actually related to your graphics card.

Spoon:
Take 1 computer. 1) Put it on a highspeed connection, play a game and grab the average FPS. 2) Take the same computer, and connect using dialup, get the average FPS. Yes, you will notice a horrible frame rate on dialup. |
